Yes. Supposedly the element goes in where the drain plug was. Costs about $100 or so in parts.

Cool

I did not know you could retro an electic setup into a gas water heater. How would one go about doing this and what and how would I hook it up.I would love to have this since we use electric everywhere we go.
Then again would it just be better to get a new one that can do this.I dont really want to get a new one.I would rather fix one up if possible.
Thanks.

Camping World carries them. You unscrew the drain plug, and screw in the heating element. It plugs into an outlet, and the thermostat sensor goes on the upper (outlet) pipe. Controller for the electric element goes on a convenient wall inside the coach.

Exclamation Voids The Warranty!!

If you're talking about the 'Hott Rodd' or similar device, it's use will void the warranty on new heaters. The idea is sound, but I have seen folks with problems and removed them. Thermostatic control failure is usually the culprit.

If you are using it on a Suburban, it has to replace the anode in the drain plug which protects the tank from corrosion. I would NOT recommend this for a Suburban.

Check with Atwood and they will say that they also don't suggest them.
