Bowen water heater 57 Overlander

We have a 57 Overlander and the Bowen electric (only) water heater does not work. I want to disassemble it and fix it, but am not sure how it comes apart. Can anyone assist me? Also, we are new to using forums, so please excuse any errors in how we are doing it. Practice should make perfect. It took us several minutes just to figure out how to post this message. Warm regards from Minnesota. Greg & Judy

Welcome to the forums! Do you happen to have a photo of your water heater? I had a Bowen water heater in my Bambi II which I opted to replace but I am trying to figure out how to restore it for my '54 FC. I have a list of threads on water heaters. Perhaps one of these will help you.

Good luck and let us know how you make out!

My solution

My hot water heater did not work either. In stead of replacing with an expensive unit I found The Hott Wash unit. It is 120v. plug in, attach a hose for water supply and a hose out for hot water. I place it on the ground outside my trailer, cold water passes right through it until yuou turn it on. 45 min later the water is hot enough for showers. Now you have hot water coming in on the cold side, mix it with cold water in your old water heater for comfort. (All this means is that the faucets are backwards)After one shower recovery time to heat the water back up is about 30 min. The heater comes in 2.5, 4, and 8 gallon sizes. Now that I have two trailers I have set it up so I can move it from one trailer to the other, that only required two short hoses for each trailer. Also in the 31' Sovereign I can put it in a closet and just run the hoses to it.

We have a Bowen gas hot water heater in our 1963 Bambi. It had been left with water in it from PO [previous owner] and then the water froze. Popped the seams. My husband took it out and down to our local welder and he cut off the top of the tank and inspected everything inside and then welded it back up and pressure tested it for us. Ours now works great!

If you have electric only, maybe it is your elements or something. Post pictures and maybe others will have suggestions! Good luck!
