Zip Dee Awning Problems

AS has been on the Oregon Coast for 8 years. Most is OK except the Zip Dee awnings will no longer roll out or in. Hardly ever used, not that hot in Oregon. Since the problem seems to be on every awning; I am guessing the salt spray mist has clogged up the spring mechanisms. I have a single page repair sheet from Zip Dee but has anyone actually taken these apart. I can see 100' spring flying all over my garage.

thanks..

DID a spring change out 15 yr ago. Simular to a garage door. Must drill rivets out. Best of memory you wind up spring to specs in instructions. Be careful can eat your fingers. Had a frozen awning on current 76 purchased last year. Sprayed pentrating oil in both ends. Let set for a few days. Use 2 step ladders and 2 people. Pull out from the top. May get lucky as I did. Agree with Andy; our coach has lived in salt air most of it's life and, other than some lube to the awning ends, we've done nothing except to be very carefull when opening and closing the awnings. The small awnings will open in high winds and rack, which I think might have happened. Hold-downs should have been factory.

I drilled out one rivet on each end of each awning and squirted some de-greaser & WD-40 inside. Rolled a little and rolled some more, let it set, worked on the next awning and by the end of the day; all 5 were working.

Thanks for you input on this...
