Red face Where can we get it polished?

We have a 91 Excella, 29 ft and would like to find where we can take it to have it polished/refinished. We have some peeling on the top and what looks like oxidation. Our schedules don't allow us the time needed to do this ourselves. Anyone know where we could take it to get it refinished? We live in Western Tennessee. Closer would be better!!!

Northgate RV in Chattanooga, TN, will polish Airstreams during the winter months when repairs are slow. Don't know how much they do with clearcoat, however. They tell me they charge $85 per hour and of course cost depends on the level of oxidation. The estimate for my 24' TW which basically needs a good maintenance polish was 8-10 manhours of work. I see they have a website with some contact info, http://yp.bellsouth.com/sites/northg...s/service.html.

"8-10 manhours" does not sound like a first-time mirror finish job ~ maybe a really good cleaning and wax job, but not true polishing. Either that or it's a verrrry goooood deal! Heck, it took longer than that just to strip the clearcoat from our 19-footer!

Hi Shari, I believe you're right. I've not seen Northgate's work yet, and I wouldn't expect something the caliber of P&S or the Polishing Guru. My trailer was already polished to a great degree when they looked at it, but has never been a true mirror-finish. Although folks were taking pictures in its reflection at the last rally. Plus, it has no clear coat. So the estimate for my coach was to remove a year's oxidation and maintain the existing polish, not necessarily bring it to mirror-finish. If I get a chance to have mine done this winter, I'll post the resuls.

the more you pollish, the quicker it goes, i've noticed... and i've only been getting the hands dirty for this season.

it makes me cringe in a rainstorm, though...

Does anyone have an Idea of the cost by P & S for a 30 ft. AS. The sides and front are okay, the main area of finish discolouring is the top front and rear.

I talked with Steve on Friday at P & S, He said if the delamination/oxidation is above the window tops then it would be in the $4 - $5,000 range to strip, polish and clearcoat the top portion of a 31' or $7400 to do the whole thing. I am having mine completely done in mid December and will post the pictures and my evaluation of the job. They are the experts and do approximately 80 - 90 AS's a year.

New Trailers Too?

I've seen some ads from polishing companies that say they only do older AS. I really like the shiny look. Is it possible to polish new AS or should you wait awhile?

Is stripping, polishing and clearcoating the normal proceedure or can you just have it stripped and clearcoated and is that a recommended option?

P AND S has had Carmen O a little over a week now. They are stripping, posishing and clear coating my 83 Sovereign 31'. He is also adding curb and street side Zip Dee awnings. I bug him every other day or so to send pictures. Hopefully I will pick up in early January if the weather in Ohio, WV and NC cooperates. I like what I see.

Depends on what you want??

I would say, it depends on what you want. I had a 1966 Safari polished this past spring by P&S. They did a great job. I found they take it to a point, but not the "mirror" finish. But, they have the most "consistent" finish. You will find "NO" area's that have a slightly different look. When you try to go to the "mirror" look, most of the time you, may have areas that have a slightly different look or almost feel. I had someone that also polishes trailers look at mine after the job was finished. He ask "How did they get it to be so consistent?" I called Steve and asked, he told me "It's 25 years experience". I would say the P&S job would look more like it did from the factory than the mirror look. I think some people do to Airstreams like some people do to old cars, they "over" restore them. I've see better paint jobs on some cars than the factory ever could have done.

the polishing guru does best.. they get mirror like finish and i've seen a couple trailers from competitor polishing companies in there to get repolished.

Here are a few before and after shots. P and S did a great job with the polishing and clear coat. They also repaired rivets under the belly pan as needed and painted it as well as the tongue/hitch bars & chains. They also put on Zip Dee awnings on both sides (length of trailer) and back window. They also put on ss rock guards and stone guards for the windows. Looks like a different trailer - what do you think?

I will try to post more pictures on the photo page.

P & S in Ohio has polished Airstreams for many years.

Without a doubt, they do a non-pareil job, over anyone in the country.

They have reasonable prices as well.

Andy,
Indeed, I was very impressed with their work and professionalism. I would take my trailer back to them in a heart beat if I needed to.

I had mine done here localy and I was very happy with the results (even thou I had to go over some areas myself). It was very inexpensive two years ago,, I think I paid somewhere in the nighborhood of $600.00 to $700.00 if my memory serves me right but my trailer DID NOT have clearcoat and it's only an 18ft trailer.
I was asked by a forum member for his name, as they were going on atrip that would bring them thru here,, and they wanted to get their trailer polished. Long story short,, this poisher did them wrong and I would never recomend him again.
