Try this out - oven cleaner vs clearcoat!

ok. This may be old news to some, but I have been struggling with stripping the 66 A/S when a old wise man told me to try "oven cleaner". I was willing to try anything, and so I did. It worked like a dream on removing the clear coat. spray it on,wait 2 mins wipe off. works great. I just wish I would have tried it about 10 hrs sooner.

Wipe it off quickly because the cleaner's active ingredient, lye, will dissolve aluminum.

Back in my fast-food days, we used to clean aluminum biscuit pans by soaking them in a vat of lye for a little while. Ever so often someone would forget about leaving some in the vat. The next morning there would be a ton of foam on the canwash floor & nothing but the pans' rolled edges left in the vat.

Yikes Tom!!!

JP - try Kleen Strip Aircraft Stripper. It works well and it's what it's made for - stripping paint. Clearcoat is just a clear paint...
