I have read a lot about walbernizing trailers. Is this stuff only available through the manufacture, or is it carried by most RV supply stores? Thanks

Im not sure if this is the same thing you are taling about.

I have a question about applying walbernize on a clearcoat finish. Can the Cyclo polisher be used in the application or does it need to be applied by hand? I have a '98 Excella which, I understand?, has a grain and is thinner aluminum than the older airstreams. Will this make a difference in application?

That is exactly the product that we have. The photo of it in our web site, shows the label that states what it is.

Your Airstream "does not" have thinner metal than previous years. In fact, in some areas it's actually thicker.
Using a powered polisher is OK, if it's used with caution. Namely, don't use much pressure.

Ill buy a keg if he polishes my trailer! It should be an easy polish compared to an airstream since it is anodized aluminum

I think a polisher would be more trouble than its worth for Walbernizing. The stuff goes on and comes off SO easy....

But I'll have some beer, too, if you're buyin'....

We were recently at the Airstream Factory having some minor repairs and Kevin in the Service Department used Walbanize - hand applied and rubbed with a rag - Removed all superficial scratches beautiful - No power sander is needed (or desired) It is a wonderful product and made our Vintage Classic Motorhome look so good that we are getting calls from people asking us how we do it! So don't waste your beer, time and money on any polishers, etc.

Well, you guys obviously know what you are doing. Not so here. I'm going to polish my 22 year old for the first time. My burning question is, how do I do the top without ending up in the emergency room. I don't think I can stand up on top of the rig. How do you guys do the top? I know, I know - carefully. Let me clarify my comments on Walbanize.
While at the factory, a part of our shell (l987 A/S 345 MH) was buffed by Airstream Personnel and it worked so well we asked them to sell us the product used. They did sell us the product, Walbanize, in a 1/2 package. When we got home, we carefully read the lable and it in bold print said " DO NOT USE ON CLEAR COAT" So we called the factory, and was told that there are TWO (2) Walbanize products. One is used on trailers and Motor Homes built before I belief l974 and one that is used on later vehicles that have clear coat. They are very graciously replacing the product we were furnished with the correct product. The correct walbanize was used on our MH, but we were accidently provided with the wrong product. Be certain that you are using the correct product. Read the label - the wrong product clearly indicates that it should not be used on clear coat.

You guys are cracking me up... Andy, would the Walbernize work to remove some of the surface oxidation where the clear coat has come off? My 68 clear coat has seen better days and where the clear coat has come off on the top the aluminum is now slightly darker. The clear coat on the sides is still in tact and looks awesome after I used some Meguire's cleaner wax and some Nu Finish to seal it. But the top is seriously driving me nuts. I would also like to know, how in the heck do I get on top of the camper?? In heavy rains in Big Sur last year water was leaking through the fixture over the front couch. This is unusual, but I do need to get up there and check to make sure I don't need some RV tape to seal the seams. I know it won't support my weight, do I need scaffolding?? Oy, what a pain...

"Super Walbernize" for the latter models. Am not sure from which year on - anyone know?

And yes, it does work miracles with small scratches. The first time I washed the FaN, I used a sheepskin mitt. I couldn't believe my eye balls - the mitt left swirls when viewed in the bright sunlight. Oh wow. Nothing like ruining a new trailer in the first wash.

Anyway, my dealer sells the Super Walbernize stuff and it elimiated all the swirls. The fleece mitt went into the garbage; the only thing that gets between me and the FaN is microfleece.

And yes, roof access is a big PITA. I am envious of the RVs with a walk-on roof and built-on ladder in the back. You have to get creative with those access solutions.
Right now I'm parked on a farm. I made my scaffolding from bales of hay (covered in tarp so they wouldn't scratch that precious clear coat) with a ladder across. It was still kind of scarey!
