Polished Worthingtons

Weekend project. I took the empty tanks off the mounts, found a box to cradel a single tank, put a towel in the box to prevent scratching and keep it in one place, placed the box/tank at a comfortable workining level and went to work. I found that any mechanical help was more trouble than it was worth. I used Met-al, after trying Nuvite, mostly because I am familiar with it. Pic 1 is in progress, Pic 2 is finished

I need an intervention ....of sorts.

Prop came off my old Stearman.

I begin to recover (fabric) my old Monocoupe this week. Any brave souls out there want to learn a trade? Sore hands ahead.

Tammy, I am still trying to get up the nerve to show pics of the great curtains you made for the Caravel. Your work was great...my choice of "Day of the Dead" material still shocks some. They've got to lighten up.

Next project is the trip to watch the Shuttle launch coming up. Caravel to the launch pad......ooooo, la, laaa.

Airstreams, Airplanes and Harleys. I need that intervention NOW.

so...you just did the polishing by hand?

I wonder how automotive rubbing compound compares to the coarser grades of "polish"...I know its kind of off the topic, but for a "accessory" type job like this, I'd hate to pay all the money to chase down the "perfect" polish...

Great job on the tank! I just went through the same exercise and I used "Tool Box" Polish from Lowes with my car buffer. Came out with good results but sometime later this year I need to dig into it. You can still see the machine marks on the sides even though the tanks shine.

I used the tool box polish also, but did it by hand. I wet sanded with 400 to get the machine marks out first.

Airstream and Airplanes. I am almost there!. All I need is a motorcycle. That is in the works. A BMW though.

Great idea with the wet sand! I will have to do that next spring since the Trade Wind is taking all my time right now!
Here is a photo before and after.

Another box for the Worthingtons here. By the looks of the pictures and all your work you might be ready to polish off one of these. Worthingtons here
