Bad water spots

I finished the first pass on my polishing early last year. I then made the mistake of leaving the trailer at my daughter's house for a few weeks and didn't realize the sprinklers would hit it. When I saw all the spots on most of the drivers side of the trailer, I didn't worry too much about it although I had seen numerous postings about it. Now I am finally getting back to the polishing and discovered the spots are next to impossible to remove. Compounding with F will work but it takes several attempts and I can only get a small area from each pass. The best results so far has been with an airway wheel using a black bar. Again it is very slow. Last night I did a 4 foot square area and it took about 1 hour. I am considering wet sanding with a 2000 grit paper to remove the spots. Does anyone have any pros or cons about this idea? Thanks in advance for your help.
