Solar panel on Air Conditioner??

Have had 92 Excella for month now and was up cleaning and inspecting roof and there is a solar panel on the air conditioner. I don't see switch or anything - does this automatically transfer some kind of charge to batteries however minimal that may be. Confused - thanks

I have a 1991 Limited with the factory solar panel that I assume was intended to be a trickle charger to maintain the batteries in storage (see picture below). There is no switch and it only feeds unregulated voltage to the batteries through a diode. The problem that I've had is that they overcharge the batteries and have caused the electrolyte to dry up. I plan to do a thread on this system some day.

There are many places to get info on solar operation.

Below is just one of the better to explain FAQ.

BatteryStuff Articles | Everything You Need to Know About Solar Chargers

Your location is a large influence on how large your system should be to do the job required.

Any solar panel should have a fuse that can be removed to disable it, to allow maintenance on it and other systems.
