Need inspecting tips

I'm looking at a 1970 overlander that has been sitting for the past 15 years. I could use any advice that anyone can give me about what to look for when inspecting it. I do know that the floor is a bit "spongy" under the windows in the front and rear. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Steve

Expect the smell of mice. After sitting that long, they have probably made a AS condo by now. Just a heads up.

I have come to the conclusion that ALL Airstreams over ten years old have at least some floor rot. It is the nature of the beast.

Use an icepick to probe the floor to see how punky it is. At the bottom of closets and cabinets is a good place to look., especially bathroom and galley. Expect the axles are probably shot, but you can check by observing if there is tire showing above the rim in the wheel well, if the torsion arms have a downward angle or are at least level and if you jack up the axles by the plate between the axles if the wheels stay on the ground while the body is jacked up a few axles. A serious problem on the longer 70s is rear end separation. If you stand on the rear bumper and bounce you should see no or little independent movement of the bumper relative to the body. Expect all appliances will need to be replaced especially the furnace.
