A/S specific parts

I hope that I can stimulate interest in and conversation about where one could buy parts and accessories specific to, and for Airstreams.

airdreamers,

The main parts specific to Airstreams are the body parts. The cabinets are custom made, the appliances are generic, the brakes are generic, although the axles are available only through Airstream dealers or Inland RV there are generic alternatives and the upholstery is also custom.

The Airstream specific parts are available from Airstream dealers

Airstream specific parts can be purchased from the factory but they will not ship - have to be picked up in person. Otherwise they have to be ordered thru a Airstream dealer. Airstream specific accessories can be purchased from the Airstream Store in Jackson Center by phone/mail/I-net and from some dealers. Airstream items are also regularly found on e-bay.

And usually at prices exceeding what any dealer may charge.

Airstream itself sells on Ebay, usually at a huge discount. Here is a link to their user profile and auctions:

"Huge discount"? Hmmmm(n)... Haven't seen that yet, but I did buy a screen guard from them.

Nor have I seen ebaY sellers at "higher than dealer" prices.

Another thing that is unique to AS is a bunch of various trim items. Like the spun aluminum wheel dust cover (axle cover? dunno what exactly it's called) I paid $45 for this week.

$45 for an item that's ten bucks off the shelf for SOB trailers.

Yeah, they can be uniquely pricey to "feed".

Best thing to do is call around, get the best price, and don't forget to ask about shipping costs, some dealers charge higher shipping rates than others. Happened to us.

I would call 10 bucks for a $40 Thinlite a huge discount. I ended up with 4 of them, and finished converting our trailer from incandescents.

Terry,

The only thing I've noticed is that, other than t-shirts, they don't list much for sale on average. As for price, well, like I said, I bought a screen protector (logo) and it was $100.

Bargain? Nope. Rare? Well, hard to find at the point in time I was looking. They had three for sale, all were sold in one morning.

I thank you all so far for the info. I wish I had stopped to the A/S factory but that was also before we actually bought our A/S. What I am looking for at this time is the propane tank cover with the blue band.

Aage.

That cover is called a wheel "bullet".

Yeah, I guess that's what they look like. Thanks, Andy.
