Trailer Brakes
I just bought my first Airstream, a 2017 16ft bambi. My tow vehicle is a 6 cylinder Toyota Tacoma that is prewired for a trailer brake. What I need to do is pick a good trailer break box suitable for my application and do the simple connections. There seem to be many available and I'm hoping for some good recommendations for my application. Can anyone recommend a good unit? Darren

The Tekonsa Prodigy P3 is a good brake controller.
If mounting it in the truck cab is a space problem they also make a wireless one that mounts on the trailer tongue. Has a remote to use in the truck cab.

I have a prodigy p3. Ordered the one with the adapter to plug directly into my tacoma. Dead simple install. Works well, though I find myself fiddling with the thing when changing from highway speeds to neighborhood speeds. Can't seem to find one setting that grabs enough on the highway without grabbing too much at low speed. May be user error.

Thanks All, I purchased a P3 controller last night based on most of your feedbacks as well as excellent reviews online. Based on the Greatleys response I also ordered the exact wire harness for my Tacoma. Thanks again

Tekonsha P3, don't waste time on any others. Should be a plug in harness that you can order for it to plug in to the Tacoma pre-wire.

Same here.
I set the boost to 3 on the highway. First time off the exit ramp it grabs too hard, I click it down to 2. Then if I'm in a park moving slowly, I set it to 1. Just have to remember to return it to 3 once I'm back on the interstate.

Only issue I had installing mine was finding the plug under the dash for the adapter. It was twisted behind the harness. Be absolutely sure to properly connect the separate ground wire to a chassis bolt per the instructions. It will not work reliably without a good ground. I mounted the controller pocket with s couple screws into the lower part of the dash, just below the fuse box cover, so I can easily reach it on the road.
The only thing to watch out for is that the controller is always on, and long storage of the TV will have an extra battery drain through the controller.
Other than that minor detail, I really like the P3. It really is plug and play on a Toyota.
