77 Wheel Fitment Disk to Drum

Hi Everyone,

I'm weighing options as to the best approach to re-axle and brake my '77 Excella.

The cheap way out appears to be getting new axles with electric drum brakes (it has the old style hydraulic disks now).

My axles are worn out. So replacing them is a necessity. The question is: do I go to electric drums, or spring for the electric over hydraulic disk setup?

If I were to go the drum route, would my factory Alcoa aluminum wheels fit on a 10" or 12" drum brake? I really like the OEM wheels and want to keep them.

Anybody know? Any tech specs to be aware of? I believe they are a half inch positive offset, but am not sure. I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Jim

New Brakes

I don't have any advise on the wheels, but as to the brakes, I would stay with the disc brakes, they are much better brakes. I plan on putting them on both of our trailers.

Red face Disc!

Go with the disc.

Many many advantages to drums. Price being the exception.
