Pressure Pro tire balancing needed?

After reading the thread on the Tire Pressure Monitor I purchased a 4 tire Pressure Pro monitor system to go on my 25' Classic trailer with ST 225/75R15 tires mounted on aluminum cast wheels. I'm wondering if I should get my tires re-balanced before the DW and I go on our first vacation trip this year. The pressure monitors are larger than I envisioned and I'm concerned they might throw the tires out of balance. I would appreaciate any comments from you who have them on your air stream trailers.

Sounds like u like peace of mind.. Do it...it only takes 1/2 hour... I go to the guys that have the right balancer... i believe it is call a static balancer..(wally world does not have one)

Most good tire shops should be able to do a "road force" balance

for you.

Can most tire stores handle rv's ok? I have been hesitant to take my Airstream anywhere other than an Airstream dealer. One couple told me they blamed a tire dealer for damaging the frame of their vintage Airstream by lowering it to the ground with to much force.

The manufacturer says the weight is so insignificant that the Pressure Pros won't unbalance our wheels. I used mine for several thousand miles without rebalancing and then discovered a neat device manufactured by Centramatic.
Go to Onboard Tire & Wheel Balance Systems, Tire Rotation, Tire Balance, Tire Balancing - Centramatic and check out these relatively inexpensive devices that continuously balance your wheels while you're running. They're easily self-installed if you're at all handy removing your Airstream wheels. Happy Trails

I only have a single axle so it is easier to work the tire balancing chore than you folks that have double and triple axles.

I rotate the spare tire with one of the two that have been in use - so I just take the spare down, jack up & support one side of the trailer to remove the tire on that side - and take those two tires to the local tire shop for balancing. When I get back, those two tires get put back on, and the one that didn't get balanced becomes the spare, until the next rotation. This way I handle all of the jacking and lug nut torquiing tasks, and don't worry about a tire shop damaging my stuff. I do this each spring - I not lucky enough to put enough miles on during a season to worry about rotating the tires any moe often

This routine also keeps me in practice in case I ever have to change a tire on the road - I know I've got the right tools to do the job.

Normally there is no rebalance necessary. I only say normally because we assume a balanced wheel to begin with. On tires 15 in or bigger, there is no noticable difference but on a smaller wheel with questionable balance, I would probably have it done to be sure. I would not go too far out of the way though until its time but you know if your wheels are balanced more than I.

When I rotated my tires, I checked their balance and didn't find any need to change anything with the sensors on the tires.

If you had a 1/2 or 3/4 oz weight on your wheel and it fell off, would you replace it?

If it was there before you put the sensors on, I would replace it. On the other hand, if you had a weight fall off and you added the sensors, I would have the wheel rebalanced. Something made the weight fall off--maybe it was out of balance to start with.

My point was, if the weight on your rim had changed and you were aware of the change, would you bother to fix it.

So having a weight fall off has the same unbalancing effect as adding a weight. If you would let the missing weight go until your next balance, then I would do the same for adding a sensor.

I think if it was a wheel smaller than 16", I would rebalance. If it was a full sized truck or Motorhome wheel (19.5"), I would wait.

Oh, sorry I missed that. My point was that adding the sensor to my trailer wheel/tire didn't require any change to the balancing weights already on the wheels.

Dave,

The other thing you can do if you want some additional assurance, is to have someone ride in the trailer at towing speed with and without the sensors on the tires to see if there is any diference. I haven't done this, and I understand that it is only legal in Texas, but it was a thought I had.

Keep pushing towards retirement. I made it last year and it's great.

For what it's worth...we have recently installed PressurePros on our 19' Bambi and did not rebalance....we have not had a tire balance issue...

(We love the PressurePros, by the way.)
