First Flat!

Well, it finally happened. Almost 40,000 miles of smooth towing. 20K on the 14" Marathons, and 20k on the 15" Michelins on our FC23FB. Sunset on I-10 just east of Tallahassee, FL. The TPMS alarm sounded and showed the right rear tire deflating quickly to 0 psi. No vibration, nothing felt! I thought it a false alarm, but pulled over at the first opportunity and sure enough, a flat! Thank you TPMS! Must have been speared at that fuel stop in Monticello. Puncture too large for the fix-a-flat in a can, so I wrestled on the spare - the original 14" Marathon. It rolled just fine in company with the 15" Michelins. Will find a repair in the am.

Hi JamuJoe,
I had my first TPMS test (and Michelin tire incident) last September when one of the valve stems began leaking. I carry a Vair 300P portable air compressor so I touched up the tire a bit, found a good ol tire shop just off the interstate a few miles, and they fixed it in about 30 minutes. I was very thank full for the good performance from the Tire Minder so I am now pleased with that purchase and convinced that a TPMS is a worth while accessory. Safe travels and smooth seas. Jim

The sooner one knows about a tire pressure loss the less damage created. No matter the tire brand or capacity road hazads happen.

My TPMS is Truck System Technologies. External valve stem sensors. I'm pretty sensitive to machinery sound and vibration, but did not feel a thing when the alarm sounded as that tire quickly deflated, and I was on high alert. I had to roll almost six miles on I-10 to get to a safe pull-off, and the tire was ruined. Oh well, an unscheduled rest day in Perry, FL as a new Michelin is delivered. I am now fully convinced as to the value of the TPMS.

I've never had a flat on a trailer, but I bought a TPMS, anyway. I figured, it couldn't hurt, and it might really save the day, sometime.
