55 Safari - Need new rims & tires

I need to get rid of the old split rims and weathered tires. I don't want to replace the axle at this time.

What rims do I need? It has six lug, 15inch rims.

I figured I would just take it to a tire shop, but I thought I would check the forums first.

6 on 5 1/2, 15 inch. The last tires I bought were the 235 75 15. BUT...check your fit. It was a tight squeeze at 235. A 225 65 15 fit no problem. On my 56 Cloud I run 700 x 15 Bias. (hear the screaming in the distance....thats normal around here.)

I have a similar dilemma; have a62 safari with standard r15 wheels with old tyres...i would like to upgrade to a metric PDC and use a load rated metric tyre here in Europe...(using alu usa wheels)!

Questions are should I go to r16 and what width rim should i use ? Eg 8 inch?
How many studs? What is the overall height of the tyre, what offset should I buy etc etc...heads spinning.....

Anyone got any experience?
