Some great info! Thank you again to this forum it is nice to have other people out there you can connect with that have the same interests that you have.

FYI, I do have a slight axel issue and I have spoke to Andy as well as a local guy that I do a lot with (the local guys Henschen quote is cheaper). I figured I would double check the tires while I was working on the axel issue. Sooooo short of having LT tires I am on the right track. I have found these 7:00 15 tires at a number of places, can any one suggest a brand to use or maybe not to use and why??????

So asking that question may open a long discussion. And it has been discussed many time before so you may want to do a search.

I personally do not have a brand preference. I trust the manufactures specs and very very very frequently inspect the tires.

When the trailer is stored - I cover the tires and take some weight off the axle/tires by jacking it up and placing on stands. (Most of my trailer's life will be spent in a non-use state, so this is where I make sure the tires are filled and covered. The sun kills. And in my neck of the woods, the sun rules.)

When in use the tires will always have max air pressure.

We were under the impression that Inland RV has exclusive rights to sell Henschen axles (Or, at least I was under that impression). Tell us more about "the local guys" and the deal you can get from them.

As for tires, your Airstream is a travel trailer. I believe travel trailers should have "Special Trailer (ST)" tires. Now let the fun begin...

Indland RV has an exclusive in A/S axles for a certain year and prior. I believe the cut is like 1980 or 1981. Not totally sure on that. Henschen axles post that date can be ordered from dealers or other sources. I believe that this is because there was an axle design change around that time and Henschen didn't really want to deal with small orders for that older design. Just some what of a guess. The local dealer will not likely be able to get the pre-that date axle.

Also this thread is dealing with two subjects at the same time. It will be difficult for readers to get the info if you guys keep this thread going in tow directions. I would suggest starting a new thread if you want to discuss axles and tires brands. Let me know if you need help doing this.

Our contract with Henschen and Airstream gives us exclusive distribution rights for 20 year and older axles.

Therefore at this point, we distribute all Airstream and Argosy trailer and motorhome tag axles from 1986 and prior.

There have not been any design changes that have given reason for this agreement, or the years involved.

On occassion a local dealer may make an attempt to place an order with Henschen or Airstream. That order will be rejected once it hits production scheduling at Henschen.

Henschen simply can no longer accept retail trade, as it quickly becomes counterproductive to intermingle those orders with a huge production line method of manufacturing.

As the sole distributor for Henchin axles, I guess you would be the one to ask. My '69 Sovereign's torsion bars sit at about Zero and will need to be replaced soon. Do you stock the axles for it? or do they have to be ordered? What is the correct axle load range? How much are the axles and how much is installation? It looks like just a few bolts so I might be able to do the install myself. What would be shipping cost to Amarillo, TX 79178. Can they be drop shipped? from the mfg?
Should I carry this conversion on off forum?

We have a large assortment of axles in stock. We also have axles drop shipped from Ohio.

In your case, the freight would probably be a littles cheaper from Ohio.

Upgrading to a higher weight capacity and/or changing the starting angle, is done at no additional charge.
