Angry HELP with a '74 Sovereign Airstream AC



Need help on how to remove the AC on a 74 Airstream Sovereign. AC had quit and we are in 100 degree F weather....have already got capacitor but don't know how to remove so we can fix it.

The capacitor is inside the shroud. No removal of the air conditioner should be needed.

Bolts on top IIRC. Haven't been on top of my AS in a while.

If it is like mine the shroud will be bolted through the side if the shroud on either side.

Again, if it is like mine, there will be some components under the inside shroud also.

FWIW, the only time mine didn't work there was a single screw that had fallen out of the relay.

This relay was in a metal box under the inside cover.

IIRC=If I Recall Correctly

We are assuming he has the original Armstrong Bay Breeze, I know much newer models have large screws on the top, and the shrouds are typically one piece. The Armstrong unit has a two piece shroud. Haven't had mine off in over 6 years so I don't remember exactly how it comes off.

His air conditioner manufacturer is out of business.....they quit making his AC yeaars ago. Parts are hard to find for it.

Don't count them out: it seems that all the core parts are still available in the marketplace. Those are very rugged machines.

Take a few minutes and read Jason Pratt's thread where he completely rebuilt his, and even upped the output power AND added the 'heat pump' function to it!
