A/C seal/gasket

We have narrowed our leak down to the A/C unit. Yesterday I took the cover off in the hallway and we found rust on the corner by where the leak is. I felt up there and felt a small amount of moisture when I look up in there I can see all kinds of putty looking stuff. So now I think it must be the seal that everyone has been telling me about. Where can we get this seal, our unit is the old Armstrong unit it worked great the last time we used it. I also understand I think, that you have to take the shroud off to get to where the seal goes. If anyone has done this and can tell me where to get the seal please let me know.

Thanks,
Becky

Becky,

taking the shroud off is easy. There should be several bolts on top of the shroud that you unscrew then it just comes right up and off.

After that, we're probably going to need some pictures for the situation to determine what you need to do. If it is like my old one (and I don't think it is), the AC unit was riveted on, with a ribbon of butyl caulk underneath. But, let's see what you have and we'll go from there.
