SMEV Cooktops? Any one tried them?
I'm looking for a drop-in 3 burner cooktop and haven't been impressed by the looks of the Suburban or Atwood models.
Their is an Italian manufacturer call SMEV that seem to have a large presence in Europe and Austrailia. Anyone tried one or seen one?
website is www.semausa.com

Sorry Ron,
I tried to look, but that has to be one of the worst websites I have ever seen. Can you find a link to the 3 burner cooktop you are interested in?
Is this who you are talking about http://www.smev.com/? They have an Italian website location.

A SMEV cooktop (two burner) is standard in the Sport models. I've only done breakfast in a frying pan, but the ignition, cooking heat levels, and flame adjustment all worked well on our first three trips. Also easy to clean out. I was a little concerned at first getting an unfamiliar European appliance, but it works just fine.
On the SMEV page you reference, it's under the "Hobs" link. I'm not sure of the origins of that word!

SMEV just received a nice write-up in a major RV trade publication. I have not seen them yet on any units that I work on, but they DO make a nice product....expensive.....but with interesting design twists.

SMEV RV products have long been popular throughout Europe. One of their advantages is how easy they are to clean. As for "hob", that is the British designation for cooktop.

OK... they are cool looking and fill the gap for me to replace my performance and reliable Honda motorcycle with a Ducati.
The one I bought is...

I'll report back when I get it.

Yes, we like ours for the same reasons. Best cook top in a RV we ever had.

Cool, glad to hear that they work well... especially since I just bought one.
I liked the design and the fact that tip-up glass cover in built-in. Also, the fact that the unit is flush with the countertop when closed is a big plus for me.
The price I paid was $260 with shipping and when you look at the price of Atwood or Suburban 3 burner and add in the cost of a stainless top... it's only about $30-40 more.

Interesting... the same unit that I bought on Ebay for $240 + $20 in shipping is now $343 + $20 for shipping from the same seller. I guess I got a deal.

I still need to post pictures... but the unit is beautiful and the glass fold-up top is nice and flush. Definately way more stylish that the Atwood or Suburban 3 burner models... and come with a cover for the price.
My plan is to use the UDDEN sink combo and then make cabinets underneath for the water system, filter and furnace.
IKEA | Free-standing kitchens | UDDEN free-standing kitchens system | UDDEN | Single bowl sink with legs
Also on Ebay... the price for the 3-burner SMEV is back to the $240.10 price for those interested.

Yes... I corrected it in post #6. I work on custom cars and muscle memory took over and typed SEMA for "Special Equipment Manufacturers Assoc" by mistake.
The correct address is www.smevusa.com

We received our new stove yesterday. In a couple of weeks, after it is installed, I'll post pictures.
