Dometic gurgle
Hey all
I've got a 84 International with a Dometic RM1303....that doesn't want to work, but, when we try to fire it up I don't seem to getting anything from 120 but when I run gas it at least trys. What I'm getting is a gurgling sound as it's heating up, but still doesn't cool at all, any ideas?. There is no ammonia smell at all.
Thanks for your help
Dan

Aage....I have read several posts on burping the system I just wasn't sure that that's what needed to be done. Putting two and two together it would seem like that would be the case I'm just not sure why it's doing what it's doing.

If it's not getting cold, and the cooling unit feels warm the propane or electric elements are working. You don't have to smell amonia for the cooling unit to be leaking, it vents out the roof. More than likely the cooling unit has gone bad. Luckily I think yours can be repaired or replace. Costs around $450.00.

Last time I ran into this, it pretty much meant that the system has a leak. I didn't notice any odor but at that point the system had probably leaked itself out and whatever was left was doing the gurgling when the fridge fired up. I was getting no cooling at that point. This was on a 14 year old Dometic.

You have diagnosed this already, Grandpapa. When you have the sound of a coffee pot perking, the fridge is shot and the cooling unit gone.
