Woke up on the Columbia River watching the large ships going in and out of Portland Or. Lots of smoke from Washington fires. Going into Oregon today to meet friends.

It is our weekend warrior spot 30-something miles from home.
Nothing there really but beautiful scenery, boating, fishing, and a better stocked Walmart and some different restaurants.
I guess it is the destination- about 12 times per year-
I like to cook out and build a campfire. We enjoy time camping with friends.
Great park with long, level, spacious pads.
Just one of our favorite hangouts- been camping at Grenada Lake 40 sone odd years and still enjoy it. Nothing much going on but an occasional downtown festival or the farmers' market- a pretty little town compared to our 'hood or ghetto-

The I-55 corridor through Mississippi passes 5 flood control lakes- Arkabutla, Sardis, Enid, Grenada, and Ross-Barnett. Each one has excellent campgrounds, boating, and fishing along with other amenities- cabins, hiking trails, meeting rooms-
Just beautiful scenery and nature mostly.

I asked because while I love to just sit and watch the world go by, the wife wants a reason to go 2.5 hours out of our way on a trip to Plano, TX. I keep telling her it's the journey, not the destination, that I'm interested in. That looks like a nice place to visit and I love lakes. We've stayed at several places this past year that are mostly wet and muddy, dry would be nice for a change.
Local festivals are good, maybe we can find one or two down that way. She's having some back problems right now so all trips are on hold. We were hoping to head down that way in October. My fingers are crossed she gets better by then.
