I like the more rustic campgrounds. The DEC campgrounds in NY are nice. Lewey Lake in the Adirondack's is my favorite so far.

My favorite campings spots must meet a number of criteria:

(1) The sound of a cash register or the smell of a french frier is a negative.

(2) The sound of a gasoline generator after sunset is a negative.

(3) Music and bright lights at the camp site is a negative, except during daylight.

(4) The sound of a dumpster lid banging with bags full of bottles at 1AM is a negative.

(5) The 2AM trailer arriving into the camp ground and the husband and wife yelling out the backing up instructions, and unloading the tow vehicle is a negative.

(6) My FAVORITE spots to set up our trailer are listed among the Boondocking threads. Of course, I will not be there, but hope others will in the future to experience a real, outdoor peace and quiet camping experience in your trailer.

I am just poking a bit of sarcasm into the question, as what nim-ka-poop would give up that special spot? Not I. But, I will share those spots that we have tried and tested over the years and have gone to other adventures and places, yet to be discovered. Trailer camping does not have to be in a RV Park. There are many places, millions to be exact... to get away from the lights of town and enjoy life for once. Without the crowds, without the lights, smells and noises you can hear at home in your yard. WHY, camp among the throngs of humanity, when it can be done in your driveway? Sure, experience new places at a RV Park, but, just once, try to avoid being a lemming and doing what EVERYONE ELSE seems to be doing. Pull out a STATE MAP, have the kids or dog, throw a dart at the map and go to that spot, or until the road ends. Now, THAT is MY favorite camping spot!

It might be scary at first. It might seem unnatural. It might even seem like only a nut case would attempt such folly. And you are correct in all counts. Just do it and you will probably see us as we wave at a person/family taking the trip of their lives... but just keep going. This is our SPECIAL PLACE. Find yours up the road... aways.

The only traffic is the passing of a canoe through your back yard.

Since my camper hasn't moved more than 50 feet (to mow under it) in 9 years I guess mine is up at my land in Aitkin, MN.

Thanks for posting those pics of the park. I can still remember the thick blanket of pine needles on the ground. We camped there on our first camping trip (in a small mountain tent) back in 1974. That is a special place for sure.
Some day we'll head back there.

My favorites are on the Blue Ridge Parkway either Julian Price or Linville Falls Campground the last two weeks of May, before the summer crowd starts. Or, Pisgah Campground the last two weeks in August when the kids are back in school, when it's 90+ down in the flatlands, when it's 70 at Pisgah at 5,000 feet. We were at Linville last week with only 4 or 5 other campers in the whole park. Only two others on the trout stream for half a mile, nice! And, since it's just an hour or so from home does not hurt.

Ditto for pretty much anywhere that is on the water - the exception if we can't be on the water would be overlooking great scenery.

Last years Alaska trip is going to be a tough act for us to follow ..... here's the views from 3 of many great campsites - all views from our campchairs -martinis in hand .......

I can't say I have a favorite, but I like 'em like these three. The first one is Yellowstone and the last two are in Idaho.

I'm curious- where are the 2 in Idaho? I'm from northern ID originally (moved to CO for a job about 14 yrs ago)...

I like the campground at Navajo National Monument. Wish we were there now! Here's a view from the one trail nearby:

And here's the view from the short (and less known) trail right behind the campground. (Please watch out for the biological soil crust! It's all over the place near this trail!)

Natchez Trace State Park near Lexington, tn. 53,000 acres. a 400 acre lake at the rv area. a 200 room hotel less than a mile away with full meals three times a day. sparkling clean bath. fully paved roads in. and more than 299 geocaching hides within two miles. this is truly paradise.

Table Rock State Park in South Carolina in the fall to see the leaves change.
Devil's Fork Park on lake Jocassee in the heat of summer. This lake is over 300 feet deep, up in the mountains, and stays cool and refreshing. The water is clear as a bell, with visibility over 20'.

Aw rats....sure would have been nice to meet-up.

Which campsite? Point Comfort, Little Sand or Poplar Point.
Do you have a reservation, a lot of the sites are pretty small.

This is 6 at Little Sand, where we stayed last time.
