Weekend trips out of Chicago

I'm brainstorming long weekend trip ideas leaving from the western suburbs of Chicago. I'm talking 3,4 or 5 day jaunts for when the weather breaks in May.
I pull a 31ft. 1976 Sovereign, with a wife, infant daughter, and two Golden Retrievers also in tow.
I'm good at traveling long distances in one day; I just like the open road, so I can range out to 500 miles away from home station on Thurs-Mon trip.

Lots of interesting places to go up in Wisconsin or try the Boundary Waters area up in Minnesota.

The Lake Superior coast in Michigan's Upper Peninsula or Sleeping Bear Dunes in Western Michigan are both about 400 miles from Chicago and great destinations.

Evergreen RV park in Mount Eaton, Ohio. One of the nicest rv parks in country. Indoor pool with retractable glass roof and heated floors in restroom. Super clean. In Amish tourist area. Restaurant across street and grocery in walking distance. Great place in shoulder seasons with indoor swimming.

Indiana Dunes State Park ,hoffmaster state park near Muskegon MI Michigan is full of great parks along the western shore

Sault Ste Marie Michigan/Ontario. Return back along the east coast of Lake Michigan.

Southern Illinois is beautiful - lots of great places in the Shawnee.

Kettle Moraine south, Ottawa Lake campground. Right by Old World Wisconsin. Or, closer yet, Bong Recreation area in Kenosha County. Yes, I said Bong.

Try the UP of Michigan. Go down in the iron mine at Iron Mountain, the painted cliffs along the south shore of Lake Superior, and if you like to fish go fishing on Lake Superior.

There is a great big mobile home park just southeast of Chicago. I think it's called Indiana.

We did a trip last summer to Moraine View State Park near Bloomington, Illiinois.
Also, check out Pentwater, Mi.
Door county is beautiful as is the upper Peninsula of Michigan.

The scenery tends to get more interesting farther north, but there's something to be said for cutting back on the driving and spending more time at your destination. Wisconsin has a lot of lakes plus the Great Lakes shorelines.
