We made it to MT RUSHMORE!!!!!!!

Well, we have arrived at our destination. TOday we took the grandkids to see Mt Rushmore. and Crazy Horse. We arrived in Hill City SD last night about 5:30. We have driven just about 2,000 miles in 5 days.

We stopped on our way across RT 90 to do the badlands loop that was awesome! We also stopped at Wall Drug, which I suppose every tourist should do at least once.

We are staying here at a small campground called Crooked Creek Resort. Nice accomodations close to everything we want to see. But we experenced what every Airstream owner dreads, We had a bad thunder, and lightening and HAIL STORM last night. It woke us up at about 12:30 with this horrible noise I knew instantly what it was.Golf ball size to boot. Our 9 year old grandson started holllering what's happening! Kinda scared him. We don't get hail like this back home in CT.

Harold had to go out and keep pushing up on the awing to keep it from collaping, didn't know we should have lowered it down or wound it up before going to bed. We won't make that mistake again.

So we didn't get back to bed until after 3. Our son-in-law and daughter
were across the driveway from us in their VW Vanagon, They had lowered their awning but still get a broken arm on one side.

So this morning we got outside to inspect for damage, 4 dents, two on the top near the the 2 streetside windows and 2 on the very top. The 2 on the the top that we could see from the ground , one has popped back out the 2nd one almost all out. Don't know about the 2 on the very top we haven't climbed up there again yet. But I refuse to let it spoil any part of this vacation. We'll deal with it when we get back home.

See you down the road,
Annette

Thanx for the pix and the update. Sorry about the hail, but you must just continue and have a real good time.

Marc, the AC is running top notch, freeze you out! Michelle, The Badlands were awesome, took my breath away. Was nice to run into you guys know I can put a face with "myboyburt". Today we took the kids to reptile Gardens, and then they went to Bear Country. Tomorrow we have reservations to ride the 1880 train here in Hill City, It's a 2 hour ride on a steam train. Then in the afternoon we are going to ride through Custer State Park.

Tonight my son-in-law and daughter are taking the kids into Hill City to a cowboy show, Mamma and Bampa are to tired to go, don't know where these kids get their energy!

This trip is everything I was hoping it would be. Our Airstream has been preforming flawlessly, The AC will know freeze you out and the mornings are chilly so we turn on the furnace for a bit and it too works great.

The Holy Lands!

Tie a prayer flag for the safety of all travelers if you find an appropriate tree branch!

We have the definite advantage of living in the Black Hills and have stayed at Crooked Creek several times. We love to bike the Mickelson Trail. In addition to the fun activities you already have planned, let me recommend the Iron Mountain Road in Custer State Park, Spearfish Canyon between Lead and Spearfish in the Northern Hills and Devil's Tower, not extremely far from I90 near Sundance, Wyoming. I would also recommend Hanna Campground (Forest Service) in Spearfish Canyon for a "dry" camping experience that can't get more beautiful or peaceful.
