Utah canyon driving

We are headed to utah next month, pulling Intl 28. We are starting at zion, then bryce, then capitol reef, and arches. Are there any issues pulling between these parks other than the tunnel outside zion?

They can be very busy. Plan ahead for your stays and enjoy.

We did have a rather stressful experience on the two lane outside Bryce. A motor home pulled into our lane head on to pass a farm tractor. We were forced to slow dramatically to avoid an accident that could have easily been avoided by attentive driving on the motor home driver's part or the farm tractor could have cleared his backup by pulling off for a brief period. Fast stops from highway speed just do not make for a nice day. Be careful out there. Pat

The tunnel actually is inside Zion.

Hwy 12 from Bryce to Torrey (Capitol Reef) is spectacular, but some RVrs warn against it. Steep and curvy in spots. I'm fine with it, but some others aren't comfortable. It's a classic road not to be missed. Plenty of info online about it.

Don't forget Canyonlands which is next to Arches, and def visit Deadhorse Point State Park which is on the way into Canyonlands.

Southern Utah is amazing in April, enjoy.

We stayed outside Zion so I can't speak to getting into the park. We did the Grand Circle about five years ago. Hwy 12 is doable. I didn't think much of it but I remember Lisa being very unhappy with me when we passed traffic at the higher elevations. It is a little skinny up there.

The tunnel in Zion is a non-issue, but you do need an escort through. I think it is fun!

Parking hooked up to a trailer in a parking lot or at pull outs can be a bit tricky. but this is not news.

Only stretch I'd avoid while towing is Highway 261 north from near Mexican Hat: The Moqui Dugway.

Eubank: Thanks for that video. We almost drove the Moki Dugway two years ago but after driving Valley of the Gods we were almost out of fuel and had to return to Monument Valley. Next time for sure.

It is kind of a fun drive, but I still wouldn't do it while towing.

(Heed my wisdom, but don't follow my example all of the time. I've sure been on a road or two that I should never have attempted.)

is the dirt portion of the road only one way? it does not look wide enough for two cars side by side. but when it end on pavement i see the dividing line ??
do they regulate traffic so cars only go in one direction at a time?

I stumbled on to that road going from Capitol Reef to Munument Valley on a motorcycle--loved it!

The dugway is a pretty drive! There are wider sections, often near corners, but lots of narrow sections, too. And, no, there is no regulation per se. Just signs indicating that it's not recommended for certain vehicles. Like RVs.

Not recommended at all if you have acrophobia.
