Turn off the pump while traveling
After many years of religiously turning the pump off while traveling, it finally paid off, sort of. While driving on the horrible California highway I-5 the roll of paper towels fell (bounced) off and hit the kitchen faucet handle. No problem until we go in to use the restroom, turn on the pump and the water starts flowing onto the kitchen counter. Now in addition to turning off the pump I will stow the paper towels while traveling.

We just place a hair tie around the faucet that just sits there all the time. When we travel, we just stretch the hair tie around the handle.
Unfortunately we learned the same way and turned the pump on only to find water running everywhere in the kitchen.

yup us too. Left pump on and a valve was left on a little. Boondocking found water tank dry and we were miles from nearest water bid. We turn off pump when ever we are using water now. Traveling or not.

"We turn off pump when ever we are using water now. Traveling or not." That's our practice, too. If you are boondocking, the pump will come on eventually, wearing down the battery. If you have an animal inside, and a faucet gets bumped, you could find a flood, or just an empty water tank (and full grey tank). More than one person has left the pump on, gone out for the day, and come back to a flooded coach.

I am paranoid..I usually also cut off city water if hooked up when we leave the trailer.

Had a pipe come apart behind the kitchen drawers once. Glad it happened at home. Had a reason to get rid of that Parkey flooring in the kitchen then. I always try to leave the pump off....

I hear you regarding the lovely I-5. Sadly, 101 and 99 are no better. Went to Palm Desert a few weeks ago via 101 going and 99 on return to avoid 5 and still shook stuff loose that shouldn't. Our high CA road use taxes at work.

 Hi, and that is one reason that I added a red LED light on the control panel so I could tell if the water pump was on or off.

That is not paranoia . . . but rather good ol' standard practice. Turning the city water off when you sleep is also a good idea IMO. Fittings can let go in the middle of the night, and flood the trailer.

We, also, have had issues with the kitchen faucet vibrating open while underway. We always try to make sure that the pump is off before getting underway. We also turn off the city water supply at a campground when we leave the airstream. this prevents a small waterline leak from becoming a disaster.

I agree with Mollysdad I only use the pump when I need water otherwise it is always in the off position.

When we’re dry camping,and I need water for a drink or to wash my hands, I turn on the pump so it runs until the water lines are pressurized, then I turn it off. I use only the water that comes out of the faucet under pressure and no more. Saves water and develops good habit of always turning off the pump when it’s not in use. Pump is always off when traveling.

Same as others we always turn off the pump while traveling after experiencing the kitchen faucet turning on while underway. Occasionally, I will notice the handle is up when getting to our destination and am happy that we remembered to turn the pump off before we left.

Even worse flooding twice from the toilet. Once some paper wedged open the flusher gizmo. I caught that one early. Another time I watched mucho water flowing into the galley from the bathroom. This time the gizmo got stuck by it'self. The moral is after using your toilet make sure the toilet gizmo is not stuck.

Yep; always try to remember to turn it off and
we relieve the pressure by letting the water run a bit.
That hair-tie idea is great. Gonna implement that.
