Tampa Campground/State Park

Looking for a nice place to spend a couple of days close to Tampa. I understand Fort DeSoto is a nice park but they have a two pet limit and we have three. We'd like to be close to the old Carollwood area if possible, but anywhere near Tampa would be good. If not close to Carollwood, beach location a plus.

Thanks,

Al

Welcome to the other side of the peninsula. Or as we prefer to refer to it as the nicer side. I agree that I would highly recommend Ft. Desoto. Here in St Pete we have a KOA and several campgrounds that are listed in the Good Sam Directory. The KOA has sites that back up to an estuary of the ICW.

That KOA is really pricey however. You're talking hotel room per night prices.

Ft. Desoto is great, but try getting in during the week, they book fast and chances are it's already booked all the way thru till April. I haven't been able to get a site there yet, and I live here.

I really can't think of anything being close to Carollwood. I mean I know it's not downtown, but it's still pretty urban.

Wish ya luck, there is more on this side of the bay though.

We like to go to Hillsborough River State Park. Not sure how close that is to Carollwood. It is not on the beach, but it is on the river, which is nice for canoeing! Just a thought.....

Hillsborough River is real nice, about 40 mins from Carollwood with the traffic.

That Tampa KOA is pricy, but the sites along the water are nice. Don't fall for the more expensive 'patio sites' that back up to an industrial area. We'll be at Fishermans Cove in Palmetto for the last 10 days of Jan as we relaunch our sailboat and transition to life on board. Haven't seen that RV park yet, so can't provide a recommendation.
