St Andrews State Park

I couldn't resist posting this picture. The tip of St Andrews State Park is in the lower left corner of the picture. The park is in Panama City Beach, Florida. The sand is sugar white and the water clear. The campground is a 5 minute bike ride and a 10-15 minute walk from the beach but a number of campsites are directly on the bay. For those of you not familiar with northwest Florida, these beautiful beaches extend along the panhandle of Florida. The Canopener Rally in January is just down the road at Topsail State Park and has the same beautiful beach.

Stayed here before the Can Opener last Jan. Had an interesting experience while I was there - the Coast Guard fished a mans body out of the bay and brought it in to the park about 300 feet from where I was camped. Other than that a great park!

I love PCB, FL. I spent a great deal of time traveling up and down Front Beach Road when I was younger. The beaches are always beautiful, even if there is an over abundance of party aged 20 somethings.

Page and I made the mistake of camping at Camper's Inn back in April. Right across the street from the "World's Largest Night Club".

Other than that, I loved the area.

I love visiting Florida and my past experience with Fl State Parks has been excellent. I am bring up this old thread instead of starting a new one.

Recently spent one night at St Andrews State Park (Panama City) on the way east. Small sites with tremendous amount of camping pressure ( very dense population of people and vehicles). Several rigs openly dumping grey water on the ground in bushes at their campsite. Appeared no enforcement of park or campground policies (not my experience at other Florida state parks). Based on a one night visit, I won't stop here again while traveling Florida.

Very nice bath houses. Great beaches. Could be a good campground with small camp sites.

I'm from the pacific northwest, and have been in Florida for the last fifteen, Florida has a lousy park service in comparison. Oregon has the best campgrounds in the country, and I've seen a lot.

Given the budget pressures at federal and state levels I suspect even tougher times are ahead for our park systems. Think this puts even more responsibility on those of us who use them to be better stewards than ever.

I have seen the consequences of budget cuts in Corps Parker, Forest Service parks, and state parks in the last few years especially since 2008. Less grass cutting, less garbage pickup, less campground hosts, pools closing, restaurants closing, less maintenance in general, less staff, things falling into disrepair and not getting fixed, parks closing and not reopening...
