Question rv park around scottsale, az?

Gigi and I will be part of an artist market in Scottsdale AZ Jan - Mar 2004. We intend to stay in our 77' Argosy 6m, and currently have a space (unseen) reserved in the "Rawhide" rv lot (sounds scary... no real facilities... $600 a month) Does anyone out there have any other suggestions? Looking forward to the time, but nervous about where to stay. New to doing the campground thing for any long periods, and this seems sort of expensive for not getting much other than being close to the show I'm doing.

Help!

Mathew and Gig,

We have stayed in Tempe, at Apache Palms Rv park..It small, tidy, neat and clean with full hookups. they are in Woodalls
Also, check you the Westworld Equestrian center off of Frank lloyd Wright and the 101.
They have an RV area with at least electric and water and dump down the street.
There is also Desert Shadow Rv park up where the 101 hits I-17, maybe a bit toofar for you. The others are closer.

I just checked out their website ... $600 for what they describe is waaaay out of line.

There are a ton of places to winter in the Phoenix/Scottsdale/Mesa/Tempe/Apache Junction area ... $600 would be at the high end ... which Rawhide is not.

We'll be wintering at Canyon Vistas in Gold Canyon ... just outside of Apache Junction ... away from the big cities. We're paying $475 per month for all the trimmings ...

Canyon Vistas ... be sure to check out their other parks located closer to Scottsdale.

I guess I should add... I do need to stay somewhat close to "Rawhide", unfortunatly - the show I'm doing is 7 days a week for 2 1/2 months... I can take days off, but not sure how it will all go yet, of course. The show isn't connected directly with, but is on the grounds of Rawhide.

Coloradobus - Apache Palms doesn't look too bad, thank you.

Porky - glad to hear that it isn't just my frugality saying that $600 seems like a lot for so little. I'll wander around Canyon Vistas for a bit, see what I see.

Of course, really it comes down to Gigi's thoughts

I'm going to have to switch mental gears for this trip, it seems. I've gotten used to having trees around since I moved east...

McDowell Mountain Park

Although I live in the general area (Mesa) I've never looked into RV parks in the Scottsdale area. There are regional parks with great RV sites east of there, but probably too far for what you looking for. You might try Mcdowell Mountain park, which will be north of where you want to be, but would be very nice. You would have a 14 day limit, but i'm sure you could pull out and back in when needed. This is probably not convient enough but was all I could think of -- good luck. http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/mcdowell/camp.asp

I just checked the prices for camping at McDowell Park and it would be even more expensive than what you looking for -- sorry. Depending on the time of day you need to be at your Art event, you might try some places further south (several on McKelleps Road or in Mesa). If you travel north after 8:30 in the morning you can reach Rawhide pretty quickly on the 101 freeway. Traveling south would need to be either before 3:00pm or after 6:00pm. During rush hour the 101 is hectic!
