Review of 2015 New Year Resolution
I made a resolution this time last year that I would go camping at least once a month during 2015. I have a full time job, two young kids, an old house and big yard that require upkeep, and all the other things that most of us having going on our lives that keep us busy. But I know it is important to take breaks to relax and that my kids love camping, so I wanted to make it a priority in 2015. We ended up exceeding my expectations even if we missed three month. Extra trips made up for 2 of the 3 missed months and I estimate the total miles for the year at a little over 7500 and over 30 nights on the road. My kids also appreciated the fact that they made it to Legoland three times in the process (along with lots of other fun places).
Here is our trip log:
January - Canopener Rally at Topsail State Park in Destin
February - Paynes Prairie State Park near Gainsville, Fl, Hillsborugh River State Park near Tampa and Bill Fredrick Park at Turkey Lake in Orando.
March - the month we missed. Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday were the main reason.
April - Fort Pickens in Gulf Island National Seashore near Pensacola Beach.
May - two trips (to make up for March). First was to Henderson Beach and Topsail in Destin. Second was to Perdido Cove RV Park (private) on Perdido Key Florida.
June - left at end of June for trip to Stephen Foster State Park near White Oak, FL Tomoka State Park near Ormond Beach, Ft Desoto Pinelles County Park near Clearwater, Manatee Springs State Park near Chiefland, and Carabelle Beach RV Park (private)
July - finished the 10 day trip started at the end of June
August - couldn't make it work in large part due to work trips to Chicago and Las Vegas.
September - two trips (made up for missed trip in August). First was back to Perdido Cove RV for Labor Day. Second was to Stone Mountain State Park near Atlanta, Georgia and to Amicalola Falls State Park near Dawsonville, Ga.
October - couldn't make it work. I blame Halloween and football games.
November - Cypress Campground in Winter Haven, Larry and Penny Thompson Park in Miami, and Hillsborugh River State Park.
December - Leaving early next week for Dallas to cheer for the Tide in the Cotton Bowl. Will probably stop in Vicksburg on the way there and somewhere in Louisiana on way back.
I think I'm going to keep the same resolution for 2016. Plans so far include Canopener in January, Gamble Rogers in February, St Andrews in April, St George in May, and Curry Hammock in November.
