Recommend/Warn for OH, WV, VA???

We are leaving for two weeks to travel through the above states. Other than an AS factory tour next Monday we do not have specific plans. Any recommendations for routes, RV/state parks, forests, hikes, sites would be most appreciated. Also, should we avoid any specific areas or highways?

This will only be our second trip out with our '98 Safari now that we have most of the problems solved from our maiden voyage last month. We are a bit nervous as this will be our first USA RV tour (hoping to do Arizona and up the west coast in the next spring). The $ exchange isn't too painful yet.

ps Does anyone recommend joining the "Good Sam" or KOA Club for discounts?
Thanks

Lake Erie Islands for a great day trip. Probably want to keep the trailer on the mainland due to cost though. We've got some great camping in that area. Also, cleveland has some tremendous sites and the Art museum is tops (and free!).

Also, National Museum of the Air Force in Dayton. Right down the road from Jackson Center.

Skip the Cleveland Browns game.......

The Good Sam and KOA Discounts are modest (~10%), but better than nothing.. Parks and directories are handy and usually pretty well maintained. KOA has reputation of being demanding of some owners and mutual terminations of franchises has occurred when parks object to requested investments.. All 3 states are active users of radar speed traps on highways, and VA outlaws radar detectors, so use care watching towing speeds. I'd explore Amish territories in Ohio, and Lake Erie frontage, and then try to see if you could arrange coal mine tour in W. VA.. (most small mines are too scary to let visitors in..) In Virginia, I'd explore Blue Ridge Mountains/Trail, including Charlottesville (University and Jefferson home) though town is not a good place to be pulling trailer in traffic - park it and drive tow vehicle around town..

Virginia Highland Haven Park - Airstream Only.... Though I think it closes Oct 15. Check their website and if approaching from the NORTH do it on the Blue Ridge Parkway not 229 which is transmission burning hell!

Thanks for the tips for Ohio! We are actually booked for a cruise to Kelly's Island with the Midwest Birding Symposium. It was an unknown to us so it's nice to get a thumbs up. We are not really birders but we love birds and the fall migration is passing through that area. We booked Sept 19, 20, 21 at Lakeside near Marblehead.

Are you bicyclists? If so, the Bicycle Museum of America is 12 miles west of JC.
