Preventing Airstream theft

I haven't seen a lot of threads on this topic. What are some good tips for preventing the theft of an Airstream?

I mean, what is to stop someone from backing up into my spot, hitching my trailer and driving off?

Tire claws? Any suggestions?

If someone wants it bad enough, buy...buy! Park a bull dozed in front of it otherwise we're all vulnerable.

Standard response is - remove the wheels. A Hitch Vault is a good deterrent for short periods, but not perfect. Some folks run a hard alloy chain/cable through the wheels and used a hardened lock. It is important to remove the safety chains or lock them up so they can't be used as a hitch. Do not pull the break away switch - repeat - do not pull the break away switch. It kills the brakes and runs down the battery. Keep up the insurance and be the least receptive candidate for the bad guys. Good luck with your solution. Pat

Hitch locks are part of the puzzle. It is virtually impossible to deter a determined thief, but you can make it so inconvenient he moves on to an easier target. You also dissuade the thieves of opportunity that are looking for a quick score.

A hitch coupler lock is one item. Many brands, many types, same concept - deny use of the hitch.

Second, some sort of wheel/tire immobilizer. Again many brands, many types, and many prices. I went with a cheap one for now.

The Airstream door seems sturdy, but there are other options for internal security which I may explore in the future.

Thieves generally are after whatever they can get away with easily. Another thread discusses the idea of a few acres in a remote area with the Airstream permanently parked there. In my mind that creates a very nice theft opportunity. On the other hand, a full-timer who is on the move is less of a target, simply because the would-be thief simply doesn't have the opportunity to figure out how to steal the coach before the owners move on.

Theft from a campground is pretty rare, simply because people are out and about, talking to each other, so your neighbors know what you look like and what you drive, so if someone else tries to hook up to your coach someone is likely to notice and say something.

I use a mega hitch vault brand hitch lock, keep up my insurgence, and hope my trailer won't be the easiest one to run off with.
