As I recall, Flaming Gorge is not all that far from Dinosaur National Monument. If you have any interest in natural science, that is a very interesting place. Don't forget to go to the museum downtown there. It pretty neat, too. I'm enjoying your travelogue; keep up the good work.

Went kayaking on the Green River today, from the Flaming Gorge Dam to Little hole. Unfortunately my iPhone got drenched....and I had great action shots of Jeanne in the Rapids. Phone is currently packed in rice in a zip lock bag. Hopefully we can recover the photos. It was a fantastic float on a beautiful river!

We took a day trip to the John Jarvie Historic Site in Browns Park. UtahMan offered the suggestion.....see post 154. So glad we went. I love history, Cowboys, Indians, Outlaws, and the beautiful great outdoors. If the roads were better and we had more time we would have explored more of Browns Park.....an absolutely beautiful area. I won't repeat what is in the link offered by Utah Man. What made our visit special,is the time we spent talking with the interpretive ranger at the site, he actually lives next door. After a great time exploring the site we had a great picnic lunch and Jeanne went fishing.

I have posted some pictures, see Instagram link below.

Note: so glad we went to Flaming Gorge....we will definetly come back. The USFS campground, Firefighter Memorial is super. All asphalt, spread out, great views, good dump. Slim pickens for re supply, and a little more expensive. Aside from losing my phone on our kayak trip down the Green River, still a great visit.

Day 95.... We were in Hanksville UT, just east of Capitol Reef. Came here for a two day stay to hike some slot canyons, extended our stay two more days. Wifi is lousy tonight, will try to post later.

On the road to wherever we end up....

Glad you enjoyed Flaming Gorge and the side trip to Brown's Park - would have given you a tour of Clay Basin (if interested) had I been out there.

You might want to stop in and say hello to Randy at the Mesa Farm Market in Cainville, and try some of his goods. Humble little place, easy to miss, but be sure to ask him about Factory Butte and Swing Arm City. That's how I got to know him, trying to help solve long-standing land use conflicts on our public lands.

Enjoy the desert... hopefully cooling down a tad, and the monsoon moisture is moderating. We got lots of thunderstorms down that way a couple of weeks ago.

Regards - Ron

p.s. - If it suits your tastes, try the burgers and shakes at Slackers in Torrey (hot fudge malt is my favorite.)

Ron, saw your post right before we left Hanksville. We drove past the Mesa Farm Market, but did not appear to be open....Sunday morning.

We decided to switch gears and will stay two days in Torrey. Will likely leave here Tuesday morning.

If any body has a great dry camping or boondocking place near here or on the way to Escalante, please let me know. Plan B is Mackinaw.

Suggest Singletree a few miles out of Torrey on Hwy. 12 - safe travels.

On the road to wherever we end up....

Sorry, no help here - perhaps someone in the FS Escalante Ranger District office can answer your questions on road conditions. I would observe some of the gravel and back roads I went on this year down there were in pretty rough shape - not a problem for the F250 unless I had the AS in tow.

Safe travels - Ron

Ron, thanks. BTW, I opted for a large chocolate and peanut butter shake at Slackers, great fun place. If you are in the Escalante area in the next 2 weeks or so, will, post where we are. Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

John
