Sorry Gary, we didn't make that one.
Forgot to mention.....at the Chimney Rock campground ground, there is a railroad track about 1/2 mi away.....and an intersection so they blow their whistle, several times at night. Did not bother anyone camped here....just so you know. Also, at night they have flood lights on Chimney Rock....looks great.

Looking for some advice on an upcoming portion of our journey....after five or so days at Cheyenne, we are headed into Colorado. We'll drop down on US 287 from Laramie into the eastern side of Rocky Mointain National Park. Colorado is a truly unknown state to me. Only been to Colorado Springs and Denver. Hope to spend 4 or 5 weeks exploring. Kind of like drinking from a firehouse, I know, but suggestions on camping/boondocking especially appreciated.

There are a lot of small, no hookup, national forest campgrounds in the Rocky Mountains, and we spent a month or so poking around them several years ago.
Temps were cool, and I distinctly recall some being next to rushing mountain rivers, which were beautiful and a source of non-potable water.
There was lots of free firewood, too.
Couldn't tell you which campgrounds, as we didn't keep any records, but at 25' you can probably go anywhere you like, so I would get out and explore.
Have a great time.
Maggie

Ahhh...that would make those NF sites a bit more difficult, but there may be some that are accessible to you.
They are so peaceful and quiet.

Wall Drug...been there, done that in 2014. Huge place. Got some special elixir there from a fellow traveller.
But.....Colorado is the place we want to be. So far nothing in the Rocky Mountain NP for the next three weeks. So we will head to the NFS areas and boondock. Great chance to try out those lift kits....you did tighten everything, right Gary?

It has a driveway warranty. You leave the driveway, warranty expires. Besides the mothership had last hands on it.
Sitting on a muggy back porch, dinner done. Time to start melting some ice.

SilverEagle6: If you get to the Glenwood Springs/Carbondale/Aspen area, stay at the Redstone State Park Campground, Redstone, CO. Some sites are Electric/Water. You're tucked in the red rock and aspens.

G2...mothership said job well done.
glcmranger....we'll check it out. Thanks. Looks like we'll head to Laramie for a day or two then go south. Will contact a couple outfitters about shuttle service.

John/Jeanne-
You may want to contact Ray Eklund on air forums. I have followed several threads of his about boondocking in Colorado and he seems to be very familiar with the rocky mountains.
Margaret and I met ya'll at Alumalina last fall. You were kind to lend us your Alaska info booklet. Maybe some day we will follow in your foot steps.
Good luck and have fun! And sorry about your pooch

Day 43.....We have had a great time in Cheyenne. They put on an excellent July 4th fireworks display, and we have enjoyed the neat downtown. Went to my first Menard's....holi-crapoli, they are huge. Could put Walmart, Lowes, and Home Depot out of business!
Toured the Medicine Bow National Forest. My first hike at just under 11,000 ft nearly killed me. Recovered quickly, but important to acclimate to thin air. Stopped for a lunch break in Sarasota, neat little town. Also stopped in Laramie and visited the Wyoming State Prison Historic Site...well worth the visit.
Next stop Fort Collins Colorado.
Campground note: we are F.E. Warren AFB. Nice campground, midi terrible, ATT weak. Close to everything. Would come back.

Glad you found a trailer for Jeannie.
But don't it need a Hensley?

No need. The local law arrested the wrong person. They think they caught the real culprit and are transporting him now....

For future planning---- Which pass to take?
I know there is another thread on Colorado passes, read it, did not want to post there.
Looking for anyone who has towed their trailer from Ouray CO to Durango, or taken Rt 160 west through Wolf pass to Durango.
Please let me know your length of trailer. Mine is 30'.
