Olympic NP Camping in August

We're heading to Olympic NP with three young grandchildren on Aug 10 for a week of camping. This will be our third annual trip to ONP with them, and we love South Beach, Hoh Rainforest and Sol Duc. Always a bit nervous heading there during school vacation with no reservations (the only reservable CG, Kalaloch, is booked months in advance), but we've never struck out and not found a site at those three. The Pacific NW weather is gorgeous right now, however, and the roads are thick with campers, so I'm considering back up plans. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

We went to Olympic National Park last July and stayed at Sequim Bay State Park. We were too nervous about the inability to make reservations in Olympic and we knew we wouldn't be getting there particularly early in the day. Sequim was great for us. We had a spot right on the water and it was a short drive into the park.

As a bonus, we had a nearly cloudless day for our hike up Hurricane Ridge and we saw a marmot. It was a great trip.

We got lucky at South Beach once again, and enjoyed two fine days before torrential rains induced us to move on. The South Beach CG was crowded as expected in August, and with more MoHo's blocking the sky than I've ever seen before. Still, it's a great CG for beach lovers, and much more solar power friendly than the shaded sites at Kalaloch.
