Grand Tetons Colter Bay camping July 3rd this year

Will be camping in Grand Tetons with 25' Classic trailer, arriving Friday July 3rd staying thru 7th before heading to Rocky Mts. National Park. If I arrive at Colter Bay Village non-reserve campground by 9am from Yellowstone, will I be able to get a campsite since approaching July 4th weekend crowd. What's experience of those who have been there around July 4th.

I would call the Colter Bay RV park number and ask them. We are staying there too, so I talked to them and they are very knowledgeable abou thr RV park and the FCFS campground.

My experience is that I would not chance it that week. I have stayed there in years past and it was full and fuller. I think with the pick up of the economy and the lower fuel prices we are going to see a banner travel year coming up. Gros Ventre is a very pleasant campground but you will probably need reservations there if you want water and electric.

I don't have my notes here with me, but we go out there every other year and I have seen Coulter bay CG full, it was probably July 4th weekend. If you can't get a site there, try Gros Ventre Further south near Jackson, it hardly ever fills up.

We actually like Gros Ventre as good or better than Coulter bay. All of the Coulter Bay non-reservable sites a parallel park to the road so the street side is inches away from traffic.

We where there last year for the 4th of July weekend and it was 100% full, so I would not chance it if possible.

Thanks to all replies, I've decided to make reservations at KOA in Dubois WY (50 miles from park) to avoid not getting a suitable site in Tetons National Park campgrounds.

If you don't mind dry camping, you can always get into Gros Ventre. They have have a dump location and I think fresh water as well. They do have some sites with electric.

I was @ Gros V. 7/4/07. Campers flowing thru, some empties, I extended my time there easy. I stayed in the amphitheater parking lot for my time there. It was where they put the big rigs, no camp table, water, elec. sewer, gennys ok, in the lot. Do have a dump, fresh water, on a loop, out in front of entry station, can't say about elec. It is quiet, with a chance of buffalo jams.

I would make the reservations. My wife and I will be working as seasonal employees this year at Colter Bay. Look us up if you have the time. We will be in the employee campsite. Safe travels.

We have stopped in Dubois, WY for a few days each of the last couple of years on our way back to Florida. Highly recommend the Longhorn RV resort about 2 miles East of Dubois on the banks of the Wind River: nice sites with good facilities run by nice people.
