I highly recommend The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. The book is told from a dog's point of view, and Stein is a good enough writer to make it work.

You cannot go wrong with anything by Wallace Stegner. He is one of the most underappreciated writers of the 20th Century.

In non fiction science nerd-ish arena

"death by black hole"

Neil DeGrasse Tyson

Mind blowing content

A thimble full of the center of a neutron star is as heavy as 50 million adult elephants.....

So much good stuff if you like that sorta thing (no requirement for science education - very accessible)

Good one PharmGeek! I just saw Neil DeGrasse Tyson on Bill Moyers. He's so interesting!

Did you know Neil DeGrasse Tyson will be hosting the new Cosmos series?

Anyway, I second your recommendation on the audio book.

We do a lot of longer trips and enjoy audio books as we travel. We enjoyed "unbroken" on our last trip a week ago. Other favorites were "Killing Lincoln" and "Killing Jesus" and we are looking for "Killing Kennedy". We also enjoy the Alex Cross mysteries by James Patterson.

We download books from the public library to my smartphone and play them through the trucks sound system.

We love listening to any of the books by Clive Cussler - most of them are fictional adventure books. Some examples are 'Artic Drift' or 'Inca Gold'. Usually on a long trip we get them from the library and they make the trip so much more enjoyable.

The Harry Potter series with the narrator Jim Dale is still the gold standard I hold all audio books up to!

Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse... but you take a boat in the air that you don't love... she'll shake you off just as sure as the turn of the worlds.

An excellent book indeed. No one knows Lewis and Clark like Ambrose.
Another is "Patriotic Fire" by Winston Groom.....story of Andrew Jackson and Jean Laffite at the battle of New Orleans during the War of 1812!

Oh my gosh, I absolutely agree with you on this! I liked the series so much, I listened to it twice! Knowing how it ended, it was amazing how many clues I missed the first time around. And Jim Dale is the best!

We have enjoyed the Harry Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer series quite a bit. Also, My man Jeeves, if you can find it, is a good and humorous story.
The Overdrive app is a great way to go, as we check out all our books. We always get extra books in case we get a dud since we aren't having to buy the books.
I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get library cards from other library systems besides where we live so we can improve our selection.
