Best route out of Big Bear to Mammoth

I have a 30 foot Airstream and a Ram 2500 that is about 18 feet long, so the total length of our rig is about 50 feet.

Is going west on Hwy 18 to 330 toward San Bernardino or going East then North on Hwy 18 to Lucerne Valley the safest and "less curvy" road out of Big Bear.

I came up from San Bernardino 330 to 18 and it was fine, although there are a few curves that need to be taken carefully.

I could save about 30 minutes going to Mammoth if I took Hwy 18 east then North through Lucerne Valley, but I don't want to go down more sharp curves if I don't have to.

Any experience going down Big Bear and any advice?

Take 18 east. Much less altitude drop and much less mountain driving. The backside has long been the easier road.

We used to go up the front but my daughter usually gets car sick by the time we arrive. Now the back way, Hwy 18 is the only way we go.

On the way down, if you see a cement plant, Mitsubishi, you are pretty much at the bottom. There is a Walmart, restaurants, groceries off the hwy 18 before the 15 Fwy.

Put that exhaust brake to good use.

Travel safe.
