Bad backl

I assume we are not the only ones with this issue. My wife has a bad back and also a bad knee. She takes a very special Yoga course that has helped over the years, however, on this trip sitting on the couch has aggravated it. So I am wondering how others have tackled this problem
Thanks

I solved my back issues with custom orthotic levelers in my shoes.

They changed my life.

Reupholstering the sofa with firmer foam in the cushions may help by providing more support.

I had sciatic back pain. I dealt with it for months. After a hour long car trip, you get out walk three steps...then the surge of pain...seconds later pain gone. The fix is slowly touch your toes while keeping your legs straight. The first time I could only touch shins. The key is, while stretching the hamstrings relax and reach for the toes. The nest day the pain was gone. I do touch the toes once a month to keep things stretch. The doctor wants to medicate the problem...not fix it. I hope this helps the pretty half earn-more.

I assume you're asking about how a bad back relates to the couch in your Airstream and are there things that can be done to make it less painful for sitting. I modified our OEM couch. Changed the foam to a firmer base with a memory foam top layer. Changed the angle of the back of the couch to make it lean back a bit further. The factory design had the back nearly at a 90 degree angle to the seat. Then I made the seat deeper by adding a couple inches to the front of the frame before the new foam and cover material went on. Now it sits much more like a home style couch. Take some measurements of your home couch and compare to your Airstream, you'll see the differences. It was a bit of work and $$$ but well worth the effort for my back issues. It had gotten to a point where I could not sit on the rigs couch for any length of time before the pain would set in. Much much better now.

If its the couch, replace with two Lazy Boys. My grandfather was always falling asleep in his Lazy Boy. Pull the side lever to recline and zzzzzzzzzzz

The best thing I ever found for my back pain was a device called a "Roman Chair".
It sounds painful, but felt heavenly. I'd like one at home.

My wife has back issues, too. Her approach is similar to Mayco's. Our trailer is a 25FB. The door-side dinette bench is a free-standing piece where the seatback is just the foam cushions.

She ditched all the Airstream cushions, made an angled seatback from wood, and had new cushions made. We also travel with a card-table style folding chair that she uses a lot, depending on how she is feeling. And sometimes she just goes out and sits in the GMC for a while.

And yes, she has a daily exercise routine.

Replaced oem couch with a futon. Much more comfortable angle and higher back.
