Niagara Falls Suggestions
Looking to hit the Niagara Falls area late this summer - probably August, anyone have any thoughts on campgrounds in the area?
Looking to stay on the U.S. side, within an hour of the falls.
Thanks!

The KOA in Niagara was Awesome. Right next to bus station and must see dinner show O’ Canada “ Canada’s longest running music show”. Staying on the Canadian side of the Falls is much nicer.

My wife is from Buffalo, and I’d definitely suggest the Canadian side over the US side. (Our first date was at the Falls...). Some nice wineries in the Niagara area, too.

I have stayed at 4 Mile Creek. It was a good place, and convenient!

We have never towed across the border before and just wasn’t interested in the hassle - we weren’t opposed to driving over to the Canadian side without the camper though.
Is it worth camping on the Canadian side if you’re planning on just visiting the Canadian side?

Crossing the border is no hassle, although there's construction on the Peace bridge that causes some traffic issues. Queenston/Lewiston bridge is good, but is also the busiest.
It would be way worth your while to stay in Canada! Right now your money is around 30 cents on the dollar.

We visited Niagara Falls recently and found it better to stay on the US side. It was our first/only trip to that attraction and we were very surprised to find the US side was the more pleasant and the Canadian side to be loud, carnival-like...obscenely so in some respects...resembling a Bourbon Street atmosphere. A complete and surprising reversal of roles..... Not at all what we expected.
Yes, the actual view of the Falls is perhaps better due to the panorama of that view... But the US side allowed a very nice walking-tour out onto the island and up-close visit to the historical markers and geology.
I suggest you stay on the US side...and walk over the bridge to the Canadian side (and eat at the towering/revolving restaraunt) for the sunset view.
If interested in a hotel...believe it or not...the (US side) Red Roof Inn is excellent location, view, and restaraunt.

We stayed a week at Branches of Niagara campground on Grand Island, NY.
We went over in to Canada numerous times without any issues, even walking across once. We did Niagara on the Lake, visited some wineries, parked our truck at Dufferin Islands park, unloaded our bicycles, and road all around the Canadian side (what a great time we had on our bikes, highly recommend!)
We did Lock 3 at Welland Canal, watched some big ships go through.
We went all the way to Olcott on the NY side, took the hike down to the Whirlpool on the NY side (pack water and snacks), went to the Anchor Bar in Buffalo (home of the buffalo wing, highly recommend) spent a day with Elbert Hubbard (not really, he's long passed) at the Roycroft in East Aurora, and even stumbled in to the Erie County Fair (huge!)
Staying in Canada would be excellent too, but the Grand Island location was just fine with us.
