There is a private RV park in the town and boondocking in the National Forest to the east a few miles.
The name of the site has already been posted several times as has the location in previous posts.

I think it is time to be a bit blatant.
The girl (in both photos) is Jodie Foster. The movie filmed at the site is "Contact"

Boy, I am so surprised that folks were so stumped by that one, Marshall! Here are a couple more shots of the place:

I have never been in the area. We are not great sun and hot country enthusiasts so have not been that far into the desert country.

It's also in between the Gila and the Magdelena mountains which are nice and green and cool and even have some water. You can drive from Mogollon to the VLA through the national forest and BLM land for 150 miles and your tires will never touch pavement.

That shot of the VLA from Google shows the array in very tight formation. For different projects, the individual units can be spread along the double rails that you see extending away from the center in the image. If you do a close-up of the shot, you can see the way that a unit is moved along, then moved off to the side of the track.

Hi from AZ. . . one of my favorite areas along US 60 in NM. The recently completed sundial behind the NROA visitors center is one of the most interesting things I've seen lately. Pus, it's near Pie Town & the incredible pies at the Pie-O-Neer. We usually travel US 60 on the way to Bosque Del Apache NWR. A very interesting drive, imo. Thanks for the UFO story Lumatic, I'm looking for the book. regards, Craig

The tracks extend more than 20 miles in each direction. The radiotelescope is focused by the location and direction of the 20 story dishes.

Where Is This?
Numerous posts remain unsolved.
Post 76 ---- Identify this POI display.
Post 194 ---- Where is this town? (follow up hint is north of the border)
Post 200 --- Where is Andys Whale?
Post 208 ---- What body of water are we about to cross on the Alcan Highway?
Post 227 --- Identify the camping area?
Have I missed any?
__________________________________________________ ___________
A review of the rules:
"WHERE IS THIS?" will be a fun quiz about different photo shots from around North America. This will be a test to see if you absorb all that fantastic scenery while you are traveling.
Rules:
You may post a photo, (from your travels) and you should give some hint as to the location. (left, right, up, down, center or bullseye, Left of bullseye, etc.
It will be up to you to confirm a correct answer.
If the photo is not identified within 7 days you should then divulge the location for everyone to appreciate. (you may need to give more clues as each day passes)
A poster will win with the general location of the photo but actual location (highway number, etc) will get extra bragging rights.
It will be of greater interest to other readers if you can post pictures, or links, when you confirm the location to the winner.
The point of this thread is to promote traveling to all areas of North America and to experience the enjoyment and promote memories that will be refreshed in the memory bank through the medium of photography.

Just to show that we were actually there Ken, I have a photo of your Buffalo, in northern Colorado on I 25, taken from the navigators seat of the CLIPPER in 2008.

Can anyone else confirm this?
Here is the Buffalo.)

Ok, for post 208, you are about to go into Teslin, Alaska on the Alaska Highway 1, over the Nisutlin Bay Bridge, which, by a strange coincidence, crosses Nisutlin Bay.
Where in Quebec is Andy's whale? Jim

Post 194 answer of Ashcroft is correct again Jim.
River rafting on the Thompson River -

and turn east on Cornwall Rd down into Ashcroft and back south on Railway Ave to Heritage Park. A nice quiet stop to stretch your legs and view some history in the Park. -

The mine truck was Highland Valley Copper's Wabco 50T Haulpak Truck.
As part of the Bethlehem Copper fleet, truck #419 was operated from 1962 to 1976, first used in the mining of the Jersey pit, then the Huestis pit before being retired to become a water truck. The Wabco 50T haul Truck could carry 50 toons and was powered by a Cummins 635hp engine.

Since river rafting has been mentioned before, I will mentioned it again. It is one of the attractions that draw campers to this campground.

I enjoy this thread, and in an attempt to keep it going, here is another hint or two. Between this Campground, and the 14,000+ feet high mountain in the picture is river. The name of this river is the same as the name of one of the states. The mountain is named after a school.

I also think it's Mt Harvard but I believe it might be the Arkansas River area?
However, I can not pinpoint where the picture would be taken. The river rafting might be at Buena Vista Whitewater Park?????

Is it taken from the KOA that is on Highway 285 just before you turn right to go into Bueno Vista? It is the Arkansas river.
