I avoid campgrounds ( too many rowdies, too many rules, too much money )

So.....Why do you like to Boondock???

1, 2, 5 and 6. Also, solitude is refreshing to the soul and you can properly reflect and meditate.

Boondocking is the place to be
Our answer is YES YES YES on 1 through 6 as we do live in a city.
Boondocking seems natural to us coming from backpacking and car camping. The question of where and how do you find boondocking is what we find intriguing as it is very easy but you do have to leave the paved roads. When we are on road trips we often pass pretty places with forest roads or town signs and wonder where they lead to. We used to try a couple of them out and have to watch our time schedule. Nowadays with Google earth we just make a note of where we are and the forest service road number and look those ups later to see where it goes. With regards to your Airstream just because comes with electricity doesn't mean you have to use it.
Camping on the ACTUAL beach is one of our trailer bucket items and the previous photo of Padre Islands is very exciting. We recently took the (FREE) Galveston Ferry from Galveston to the Bolivar Peninsula and drove into a stilt neighborhood and saw an access road to the beach. A small sign said you needed a permit but there were lots of tire tracks and it looked like you could drive right onto it. The ferry and that beach are on our “go back to list” which is growing every day I read this forum and look at your blogs and pictures.

Maybe it was a trick question.
Here are some of my favorite answers
from RyanH " to find the soul of the planet and to listen to her heartbeat."
from Airchief "solitude is refreshing to the soul and you can properly reflect and meditate."
Carl said, "To see how many days you can survive alone. A type of challenge."

My answer...I get enough alone time
Do I need to be alone to find myself, who I was, who I am, who I want to be?
It's not to get away from people, but to meet people that I don't want to get away from.
Have to play the Wally card .....Wally did the caravan thing. I think of camping to be social event. I do like the social event to be a change of scenery.
Yeah, I don't like campgrounds. I think lots of folks try to hard to bring the city with them when they camp.
But that's just me. Sorry for going all philosophical on you.

That happened to me on my very first trip. We saw a somewhat abandoned Airstream down a road. Pulled in to look at it, then went down the street to get back on the highway. nope. no exit. I did a doughnut in someone's side yard. We were somewhat in hillbilly country at the time. I was just waiting for the shotgun to go off.

I think for people living away from the city only #6 matters.
As retirees spending months on the road, we like active senior RV parks immensely as well as boondocking and sightseeing to and from, taking the long way around. Some would be surprised the by the high level of activity, sports, hobbies, games, dances, dinners, fellowship, arts, music, and having a hell of a good time these folks enjoy everyday.

I would agree. We recently went to a well know website that provides reviews of camping spots. After 15 hrs of travel, we found ourselves in a trailer park with about 3ft between neighbors with a paved parkway, no grass, no trees, and no privacy in beautiful Colorado. What a waste.

Oh Boy! "After 15 hrs of travel, we found ourselves in a trailer park with about 3ft between neighbors with a paved parkway, no grass, no trees, and no privacy in beautiful Colorado."
Sounds like a great place for a Rally.....like many I have seen this year.

I load up Google Earth and input the address of the campground. You can get a real good idea of what it's like by looking down from space at it. Also, the Streetview function on Google earth is pretty good for taking a "walk" by the roads around the campground. The measurement tool will let you snap a virtual line between campsites. I find most of them are about 25 ft. apart in the commercial parks. State Parks are a lot better laid out. But then, they don't have to turn a profit.

Gringo. Thanks. I will try this. Love state parks as most have more space. Rocky mountain an exception. Will probably turn to boom docking
