Camping on the Colorado River

Anyone know of a campground or boondock area on the Colorado River?

Yes, we have courtesy parking for you. About an hour North of Los Angeles.

In AZ there are several state parks between Parker and Havasu.

Thanks Richard!

Have you stayed in any of them?

I like Buckskin Mountain SP. Nearby, River Island is ok too, but Buckskin is better. There's a county park just south of Buckskin and just north of Parker but I can't recall the name off the top of my head.

Hi Goin camping:

All the above suggestions are great! Also Havasu Springs Resort between the town of Parker & Havasu City has full hook-ups for $10.00 per night. It's on the lake itself. A nice walk on an abandoned road to the Dam itself. Pedestrians aren't allowed to walk across anymore. Good fishing on the pier. Kids can walk out and wet a line! I've seen many striped bass, catfish, bluegill and crappie caught from that pier. Some-times I think it's better fishing than from your own boat!

Many rigs boondock a few miles outside of Havasu Springs on both ends of the city. You will have lots of company.

Enjoy your adventure!

KOA in Blythe. Right on river's edge. I've stayed there several times as respite from boondocking at Quartzsite.

Sorry! -- I meant to say boondocking a few miles from Havasu City -- You will find rigs boon docking before you get into Havasu City, and if you continue through the town, you see more boon docking rigs a few miles down the road.

We've had a park model at Havasu Springs Resort since the 1950's. I spend quite a bit of time in the area. It's starting to get a bit warm now.

Arizona Parks, Buckskin Mtn

We were in Buckskin Mtn in March of this year. It's pretty but has an above ground onsite sewage processing plant. Stink was so bad it woke us up in the middle of the night. We moved after two days to the River Island unit a few miles north. La Paz County Park was so-so, crowded. We got stuck in overflow waiting for our reservation in Buckskin Mtn.

Cheers - Dave

I would think it would be getting warmish down there about this time, so I would guess electricity would be nice. Riverside County has a park just north of Blythe (Mayflower), on the Colorado river, with hookups, and Passport America on certain days. Those river parks kinda transition from snowbird destinations in the winter to waterski destinations in the summer, including whatever activities might be associated with those two different cohorts.

Yes, we call that hot where I come from too. I was trying to keep a positive spin on things with understatement. "Goin Camping" shows that he's from the Mojave, I guess Antelope Valley area, so maybe he's acquired a tolerance? Then again, you're from Phoenix, and you call it hottish, so it's hot.

Mrs. Camping and I are in our happy comfort zone from 90 to 115 degrees. After 115 we find shade and drink ice cold beer. Needless to say, we love 116.

Anyone know of an area to boondock? Seems the parks are chock full of boaters.

The boondocking place north of Havasu is directly under the airport runway take-off/landing strip...kinda like KOA's penchant for proximity to railroads...
Further north at Laughlin, Nev/ Bullhead City are several choices...if you want casino life, there are RV parks associated with casinos that offer discounted rates(largest is Riverside)...the Avi has a free boondock area, and you can cross the street after dark and use the KOA dump/water station for free, or pay for it during the day. Further north, on the NV side, but on the southern side of the casino strip, is a boondock area up on the hill overlooking the river and casino...I believe we were told that you are supposed to pay $5, but we didn't know that, and no one came to us to collect. There is a county park just north of Bullhead City(AZ side) on the river that seemed pretty nice, but we have not stayed there, yet. Buckskin is nice, but yes, it has odor problems. The county park by Havasu seemed like it would have been nice, if there hadn't been a music/art festival starting the next day...Bob&Lou have wintered up in that area, and might be a good source...m

Lee's Ferry Camp Ground

Lee's Ferry is a nice, for pay, campground. It is situated above the Colorado River on a high area with many groomed RV camping spots. It has been a number of years since we parked there, but it is worth the stop.

You can drive or walk down to the Colorado River from the camp ground easily. The river water was cold and clear when we were there, whatever month I do not recall.

If you stop there... please fill in the blanks. If I can find some photographs of the trip, I will include them in a later post.

Hi everyone, There happens to be a great spot on the island called site #6, simple to find in Havasu. Take McCulloch Blvd west over the London Bridge and go all the way to the end to the boat launch, right next to the boat launch is an area that has great spots and is free for the taking, right on the water and close too everything with some nice privacy too boot. Be advised that today is bouncing around 100 with temps expected to be 105 + avg for the next week or so. Other than that nights cool off to 78 - 80 and are nice. Hot weather starts end of June till Sept. There is free boondocking just south of town if coming from Parker and free boondocking just north at the curve if coming from the north Needles. (Though the wild burros will let you know that they own the night by announcing their presence ...LOL) Give us a shout and if we are not on the road we can give the tour or answer any of your questions. I have camped at Mayflower County Park just north of Blythe. Very nice and reasonable.

Enjoy the heat and humidity!
