Rivet Source

See the rivets holding the small metal plate on the door jamb. Where can I get these and will my rivet gun work on them? Is this plate some add on by a PO? Which is mounted in such a way that the upper hinge on the screen door pushes against it when closed. It actually racks the door frame and over the years has caused the frame to crack.

Historically, screen doors crack, because of vibrations, when towing.

Will your rivet gun work with the bigger rivets? Depends. If you have interchangeable tips with different sized holes, then yes it should work. Typically, the rivet guns that have interchangeable tips come with 4 different sized tips. One of them should be the right size.

It appears that the added p-late is nothing more than a "shim" to move the screen door a little closer to the latch.

All you need to do to open the screen door, pull it a little from the edge towards you.

It doesn't take much to bend the hinges, so don't pull too hard the first time or two.

Then, you won't need those rivets.

Also, Home Depot stocks pop rivets.
