Material for exterior panels

What is the proper type and thickness of aluminum to use for exterior panel on '64 Safari?

I need to make 2’x2’ patch where old furnace vent was to install new Suburban with small exhaust vents.

Is 2024-T3 Alcad correct for exterior panels? Thickness .032, .040? I’ve found threads with different thickness listed.

Also, What to use for belly panels?

Any good sources for aluminum in Northern Calif?

The exterior aluminum is 2024-T3 thickness .032
The belly pan is 2024-T3 thickness .024

One of the best resources no matter where you are is Aircraft Spruce

Good luck with your repairs ~

Shari

Shari; wanted to check and see if you're familiar with whether or not the Aircraft Spruce people (or anybody else) can pre-fab a curved end piece of aluminum (looks like a branch went through a rear "corner" panel of my recently-purchased '69 Trade Wind)? From what I am seeing on exterior replacement in the forums so far, a curved or "3-D" piece is going to be a pain in the neck AND pocketbook to replce.....thanks for any suggestions.

Actually, it looks like it would be fun to make a curved section.

Okay; I don't know whether to believe the part about the explosives or not - besides, if you knew me you'd never let me within 30 feet of anything that volatile anyway.

Taking the old section off to use as a template makes sense, though. Thanks

Alclad 2024

Aluminum sheet comes in single alloy and Alclad configuration. Alclad is a sandwich structure. Pure aluminum on each surface (for good corrosion resistance and polishable) and a core of 2024 -t3 for strength. If you use straight 2024, it will corrode and not be polishable. If you buy from an airplane supply place they will give you the right stuff. Other suppliers have both in stock and you will have to specify.
