How to fix hole in skin?

Was drilling through a stud to pull a wire to repair outdoor light and drill bit must have slipped and pit a small hole through the outside skin. It happens to be directly behind the awning track making it not noticable when awning is up but visible when awning is down. Any thoughts on how to repair? It's about a 1/4" and not totally circular.

If you can get in there you could put a rivet in the hole, or just use some sealant.

Good luck.

Fill it with Vulkem, carefully.

It then would look like a patch, for a previous awning.

But then again, small patches on a almost 40 year old Airstream, become routine.

1/4 " huh,

I'ld break off a arrow shaft and stick it in the hole leaving the feathers and notch exposed on the outside of the trailer.
Then you could make up lotsa stories about your travels.

Don't ya luv doorgunner's sense of humor? But I know Tim 'just' enough to know that he's serious! He'd do it.

Hardware stores (like ACE) carry rubber stoppers and plugs in various sizes back in the drawers that contain odd screws, fasteners, etc. Not sure what the hole looks like now; but if a black plug wouldn't look too bad cosmetically (your call), enlarging the hole a little to an appropriate size for the plug (and to make it round) and sealing it before installation, could be an easy weather-resistant repair.

Olympic rivets come with different size heads.Airstream uses the larger size rivet around the opening on slide out trailers. The head should cover the hole you described.

Neil, Tim will be full of all sorts of ideas if we show him this next thread - http://www.airforums.com/forums/f381...html#post58886. A new service at rallies to go along with Nuvite demos, Sealtech testing, swap meet -- and now custom 'distressing' of our silvertwinkies. I like it!

Sad thing is he will charge for the service...

Bob, I've attended several rallys that Tim was present also. He is very generous with his time and doesn't hesitate when asked for help or guidance. He comes off as a tuff marine..uh, oh.. he'll pound me some for not capitilizing Marine. I'll make up for that with MARINE. Anyway he is tuff but do you know that he takes his kitten everywhere with him...even in his kayak!
Neil.

I almost hate to admit it but...

I am fighting off the temptation to put a plate with arrows sticking out of the back of the Trade Wind. Genius.

Oh yes, I am more than familiar with Tim. Even to the point of a thread devoted entirely to thanking him for going beyong the max in helping fellow forum members. My post was in his spirit of playfulness between times that we lay it on the line for others.

Now... Anybody ever stuff an insufferable garden gnome in an Airstream gash?

How about a moose head, or butt?

I just removed the little FO indicator doohickey since it was now useless. The screw holes can be riveted, but the larger oval hole that the wires pass through needs a little bit more. The arrow idea would be perfect...

Cut up your favorite canned beverage can,... use vulkem and rivits ( just kidding) Same Idea with a patch of new skin material or make hole bigger and add exterior outlet? Mike

This will be of no help, but I couldn't resist -- how about one of those bullet-hole stickers - you could add a few and make up a story!
