Galley Tambour replacement
Hello there,
I just bought my first trailer, a 76 Airstream Overlander. Considering the age, it's in great shape. The rig is right now at the RV center where they're replacing the brakes with electric brakes so that I'll be able to drive it safely.
Next I get to turn my attention to the interior. Here it's in very good shape. The only part that I need to replace is the large sliding door under the kitchen, or if I understand the terms correctly, the galley tambour. I don't have the exact dimension of the piece here, but it's a very large piece, or at least larger than the others.
With that introduction, can anyone help me to find one? Has someone gutted a similar airstream and have it laying around or can I ask if it's available to buy from Airstream still (understanding that this is a 38 year old rig).
(If I successfully added a picture, it shows the galley and there's a curtain where the missing door is.)
thank you for your help,
Elijah

Hello
You can still buy the tambour from various suppliers although it's fairly expensive. If I remember right about $500 for a 4x8 sheet. You can generally find smaller used amounts here in the classified section. Try placing an ad wanting to buy the right size, you never know.
Good luck

The tambour you are talking about never works easily. It will work easier if you cut it in half to reduce the drag and also you will only have to get 1/2 in the spiral case. But a lot of owners replace with cabinet doors. You can glue the old tambour to the door faces so the appearance is similar.

Tambour door material is available from parts stocking dealers, but you will have to provide the dimensions you need.
If your not sure, then order a section that's a little oversize and then trim it to fit.

Hello!
We have a brand new, 4 sq. feet piece of Tambour; pictures are attached of both the front and the back of the piece. It measures 29" long x 22" wide (4.4 sq feet). Please note, the "slats" go horizontally (22").
We are asking $60 for this item.
Please let me know if you are interested or if you have add'l questions.
Thank you!

I'm just going to double check the measurements but I think it will work.
Thanks,
Eli
