Plug Question

This plug is in an RV now, not very familiar with the 4 prung plugs so we need some help here please.
the main box is set for 30 AMP but this seems to be a 50Amp plug or this is just an old 30A plug?
I found this to compare but not sure..

The 30A 120V RV-use plug is 3 prongs, not 4. I agree, that looks like a 50A plug in the picture. *IF* it's wired correctly, it could supply your trailer if plugged into a 50A outlet, but I would want to determine that it's wired correctly or that the trailer wiring had been upgraded to properly handle 50A service before I plugged it in.

To second DKB_SATX post above, the plug shown is more commonly used to connect to a 50 Amp, 240 Volt circuit. A standard 30 Amp RV outlet is wired to 120 Volts.

The previous owner may have put this plug on the cable--connected to only one side of the line to get 120 Volts--in order to plug it into a clothes dryer or arc welder outlet he happened to have handy. But make sure before you plug it in!

Hi Guys
Well based on the fact that the main distribution panel is set up for 30Amp I'm assuming that is still a 30AM connection from a 50A plug,
I guess we need to open it so see if there is 3 or4 wires..

It seems like you were right about the connection to 1 pole.


As it can be seen in the pics only 3 wires, so is a 120V 30A ?
Got this adapter in walmart to test the electrical in case it was wired as 50Amp, would the adaptor still work or should we just replace the plug with a 3 prong 30A?

I would just change the plug head. Less then $20 at any hardware store. Yes the plug on it would work since they only have it wired to one leg, but it is being powered from a 50 amp breaker, not a 30 amp. That adapter you bought would also work fine.

Thanks for the input, we are currently looking on ebay for a good 30A plug but will try the adaptor and see ehats going on.
