J box installation
What is the preferred method for mounting junction boxes when redoing the wiring in an Airstream? I have tried an epoxy, and it was not particularly fond of bonding well.
Are boxes only used for the 120volt system, or do people use them for the 12VDC system as well? I was planning on just using grommets for the 12 volt stuff, and boxes for the wall switches and outlets.
Not sure what you need the box for? Are you adding to your circuits? The boxes are better than not using them, but best to try to get a new circuit back to the where your fuses are to create a new one rather than piggyback off an existing one.
As for glue try construction adhesive or double sided 3m tape.

Basically adding all the circuits. Already redid the frame and subfloor (then set the body back on). Now I am wiring and insulating to install all new wall panels.
I think I answered my own question. I found some really shallow cut in boxes at HD that I will use for the 120V outlets. For the 12vdc switches I am just going to use low voltage cut in rings.
I bought it gutted and just finished floors and riveting up a boatload of sheet metal screwholes that one of the previous owners inflicted. I don't see any signs of junction boxes or outlet boxes on the inside of the outer skin, I can see many traces of where the wires were run. I like the idea of gluing the junction boxes in place so I'll try that, maybe JB Weld. Do you have any pictures of where you're putting your electrical box?
The original 1968 Airstream 120V outlets were fitted into these very nice boxes that screw onto the interior skins and stand proud of skins about 1/2". I couldn't find any on line, but didn't try junkyards.
The 12v switches were not in boxes, as were all 12V junction and appliance wiring. Bad technique, but typical of Airstream cost cutting.
